Jihad in Kenya. Obama, your move

Any weakening of democracy in Kenya will have a domino effect across the continent, threatening infiltration of Islamic fundamentalist elements into any unstable state. More here.

Obama's questionable ties with  violent supporter, Raila Ondinga, with allegiances to Islamic fundamentalists is a frightening mistake of enormous import.

In my piece Kenya, Islam and Obama Hussein (picked up by many bloggers) Obama's support of Odinga shows a spectacular lack of judgment or dangerous leanings. It is understandable that Obama Hussein would have Islamic sympathies having been schooled in a Jakarta madrassa, both father and stepfather are Muslim and Sarah Hussein Obama of Kenya, Barack Obama’s stepgrandmother,  is a lifelong Muslim. “I am a strong believer of the Islamic faith,” she says. But even so, even Obama can see the terrible turn societies take when they embrace sharia/Islamic law.

In return, as President of Kenya, Raila agrees to 14 actions, listed a) through n) on page two.  Read them all, and be sure you're sitting down.  Here's a sample:

b) Within 6 months re-write the Constitution of Kenya to recognize Shariah as the only true law sanctioned by the Holy Quran for Muslim declared regions.

c) With immediate effect dismiss the Commissioner of Police who has allowed himself to be used by heathens and Zionists to oppress the Kenyan Muslim community.

g) Within one year facilitate the establishment of a Shariah court in every Kenyan divisional headquarters. [Note: everywhere in Kenya, not just in "Muslim declared regions."]

Again, read all of them, for others are just as bad or worse.

What a rare opportunity we have as voters to see how Obama will handle the jihadis vs the West. A telling moment. Will he renounce his allegiance to supporters of Isalm?

And here is the biggest non-surprise:  Raila Odinga has, in his own words, a "close personal friendship" with Barrack Hussein Obama Junior.

When Obama went to Kenya in August of 2006, he was hosted by Raila and spoke in praise of him at rallies in Nairobi:

Obama's bias for his fellow Luo was so blatant that a Kenya government spokesman denounced Obama during his visit as Raila's "stooge."

As the riots and bloodshed continues, as Raila Odinga continues to pour tribal and religious gasoline of Kenya's fire, his stooge will need to do more than send a recorded plea for calm and conciliation broadcast on Voice of America (12/31).

Imagine instead, Obama canceling his campaign schedule, flying to Nairobi, and mediating direct negotiations between Odinga and Kibaki which triumphantly result in an agreement "for all Kenyans regardless of their tribal or religious affiliation" and end to the violence.

Returning to America, the nomination and quite possibly the presidency, would be his.

Does he have the cojones to fly to Nairobi or will he remain Obambi pleading for votes in New Hampshire?

I think it will be the latter.  He hasn't got it in him. So rather than being the hero people want him to be, he'll end up pestered by some reporter at some snow-bound campaign stop about his friend Raila wanting to impose Moslem Sharia law on Christians in Kenya.

"And a follow-up, sir - does it bother you that your friend Raila's son is named Fidel?"

Your move, Obama. Let's see what you're made of.

The country, famous for its palm-fringed beaches and wildlife parks, visited by millions of tourists, shares borders with Tanzania, Uganda, Sudan, Ethiopia and Somalia. While its 36 million people are split into more than 40 ethnic groups, Kenya was nevertheless sofar widely regarded as a haven of relative peace and prosperity in a region plagued by conflict, poverty and disease. All this might now change rapidly, if a solution cannot be found immediately to prevent total disaster. By inviting dangerous elements like Al Qaeda or it's affiliates into the void, these could make their comeback into this little 'Garden of Eden'. In fact, Kenya's attorney general Amos S. Wako has warned that his country is "fast degenerating into a catastrophe of unimaginable proportions". About a third of Kenya's population are Muslims, many more are refugees, driven by the unrest in neighboring Somalia, creating further problems of the already largely deprived Muslim population in the country.

Already in 2005 such warning came from Major General Douglas Lute, then director of operations at US Central Command "There will come a time when Zarqawi will face too much resistance in Iraq and will move on," the general predicted, referring to the head of Al-Qaeda in Iraq. (Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the Jordanian-born Islamist who was later killed in an American airstrike). Al-Qaeda has spent years operating in Kenya and is widely remembered by the 1998 twin bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi and in neighboring Tanzania, that killed 224 Kenyans, Tanzanians and Americans and injured over 4,000 more. This bloody attack was followed shortly by a 2002 suicide car bombing targeting a hotel popular with Israelis near Mombassa and the attempted destruction of an Israeli airliner by shoulder fired missiles, from near its airport. It had awakened U.S. security officials to the dangers posed by militant Islam in East Africa. In the years since, the Horn of Africa, and Kenya in particular, has come into new focus of U.S. counterterrorism.

The New York Times story from a few days ago on the people who were burned to death inside a church in Kenya blames it all on tribal warfare. But there may be other factors involved also.

NAIROBI, Kenya — Dozens of people seeking refuge in a church in Kenya were burned to death by a mob on Tuesday in an explosion of ethnic violence that is threatening to engulf this country, which until last week was one of the most stable in Africa.

Government officials said Tuesday that they would crack down on anyone who threatened law and order, and they banned political rallies. Meanwhile, Raila Odinga, the opposition leader who lost the election, has vowed to hold a million-person march on Thursday, which many Kenyans fear could become a bloodbath.

On Monday night, several hundred Kikuyus barricaded themselves inside the Kenya Assemblies of God church in Kiambaa, a small village near the town of Eldoret. The next morning, a rowdy mob showed up.

According to witnesses, the mob was mostly Kalenjins, Luhyas and Luos, Mr. Odinga's tribe, which makes up about 13 percent of the population. They overran Kikuyu guards in front of the church and then pulled out cans of gasoline. There were no police officers around, witnesses said, and no water to put the fire out.

Most people escaped. But in addition to those killed, dozens were hospitalized with severe burns. Witnesses said most of the people hiding inside had been women and children.

The Eldoret area has become a killing zone. Residents say dozens of Kikuyus have been hacked to death, including four who were beheaded on Monday.

In Nairobi, a much-feared Kikuyu street gang called the Mungiki seems to be taking revenge. According to residents in a Luo area, the Mungiki, who are said to take an oath in which they drink human blood, were sweeping through the slums and killing Luos.

The government is now blaming Mr. Odinga for the violence.

That they are blaming Odinga is significant.

2. Raila Odinga, the current frontrunner in the upcoming presidential election in Kenya, has promised that he will implement strict Islamic Sharia law if he receives the Muslim vote in the country and is elected president.

4. Muslim supporters want Muslim politician to counter Christian evangelism in northern Kenya. "The African Front ," by Joshua Hammer in the New York Times, December 23, 2007:

He supported Kura's claim that Harugura was being financed by Somalis from the Northeastern Province. "They believe that Harugura is the person to bring back the Rendille tribe from Christianity," Lesiantam said. "And he has promised that during the first five years, he will have mosques built in every urban center we have in this constituency."

5. Islamic charities in Kenya are providing Al-Qaeda with operating funds. "Al Qaeda Skimming Charity Money: U.S., Saudi Crackdown Has Largely Failed To Stop Money Flow," from CBS News, June 7, 2004.

Barack Jnr was born in August, 1961.

Two years later, Barack Snr was accepted at Harvard and left Ann and their little boy behind for the east coast.

Throughout this time he had written regularly to Kezia, even sending pictures of Ann and Barack Jr.

What he failed to tell his first wife was that he had also met a second new woman, an American teacher called Ruth.

Nor did he tell her, on his return to Kenya in 1965, that she had become his third wife.

Miluimnik - still haven't heard from you. In the meantime, I've checked a bit on my own. My references show that the primary religions in Kenya are traditional tribal beliefs and Christianity. Islam is not mentioned; by percentage, it would have to represent a minority. Again, if you have any evidence that the current violence is religiously based and connected specifically with Islam, I'd ask you to post it with a link, otherwise please withdraw this inflammatory claim.

Thanks, Miluimnik, for including the time-stamp on the comments above. That makes it clear that at the time I responded to your original comment, no evidence had been produced about a jihadist connection to the riots in Kenya. Since that time, Atlas - not you - has produced such evidence. That is the difference between a journalist and an "armchair illiterate" such as yourself.

I have had enough hearing about "crack" and "Kool-Aid" from people who won't be satisfied until they can club Muslims to death in the streets. You, like commenters on a better-known anti-jihadist website, don't give a damn about the awful personal price some of us have paid in the war against militant Islam. The people who could substantiate my claims are well-known fighters against jihad themselves.

But some of you think that wars can't be won without committing genocide. We didn't have to wipe out all Germans or Japanese to win WW2, but some of you want to wipe out all Muslims. I want to win, even if it takes killing millions of jihadists to do so. Some of you want to kill as many Muslims as possible, even if it has nothing to do with winning. You shoot your best allies. I'm hated for pointing out Islam's war with every other religion on Earth. But that's not enough for some knuckle-dragging Neanderthals. Some of you want blood, thus turning into jihadists yourselves. That's not victory. That's defeat.

Amazing. It's not enough for people like me to fight the Bush administration on its ignorance, its dhimmitude, its appeasement, its lack of clarity, its naivete, and to suffer major life changes for such honesty. No. You want to see a parking lot from Morocco all the way to Indonesia (excepting Israel and India), and better yet, hunting Muslims in Western countries as a new sport. Then you have become what you most hate.

One more thing. Ingratitude is one of the most contemptible vices, particularly when directed at those who have lost something precious in fighting to help you and all of us.
