Tragic: SDEROT MAYOR MOYAL RESIGNS
When I went to Israel to cover the Israel/Hezbo war n the summer of 2006, the person that made the greatest impression of my was the Mayor of Sderot Eli Moya. Before reading on, I ask you to listen to the remarks he made to me here. Download sderot_mayor_moyal.mp3
Nasrallah is a vicious killer but he’s not stupid. He didn’t call a war against the Israeliarmy, he called a war against the people of Narhariah, the people of Haifa, the people of Tiberia. If the people ran away, well actually he achieved what he wanted and I said it clearly in that article yesterday. And I was the first one who said it, c’mon, we not about the run. We are a state in a war, we’ve got to stand our place. Ok take the kids out. Take the weak people out. But the rest must stay.
We stayed here for 6 years, we never left. This is the situation, if you ask me. Because it’s not a two state conflict. It is a war against terror. PURE
We don’t have a conflict with the Lebanon state. We don’t have a conflict with the Lebanese. We have a conflict with the terror organization. If you are asking me the nickname of Hezb’Allah is Bin Laden. It’s international terror. It’s not local terror taking place in the Middle East.” The same hands who did 9/11 are doing right now what they do in the North.
It’s international terror, organized by al qaeda, Iran, by Syria by those states that are supporting terror. And unfortunately we got that job to fight it straight – face to face.
Please see my post on my visit to Sderot here.
Mayor Eli Moyal resigned today. Atlas shrugged. This is a dark day, my friends. This man should be Prime Minister
.
Sderot Mayor Resigns in Protest Over Kassams by Hillel Fendel
(IsraelNN.com) Sderot Mayor Eli Moyal responded to the barrage of rockets on his city Wednesday morning by announcing his resignation in a live prime-time interview on public Voice of Israel radio. "I don't want to be around when a rocket hits a kindergarten and kills 20 children," he said with great emotion. "I have been losing sleep over such a scenario for years."
The resignation was spurred on by the security cabinet's decision just beforehand not to carry out a major offensive in Gaza to halt the Kassam rockets fired by Hamas terrorists.
Dhimmi Jews.
Voice of Israel quickly dialed Deputy Defense Minister Matan Vilnai for his reaction to Moyal's dramatic announcement. Vilnai explained that Israel has fought and continues to fight against the terrorist threat from Gaza. "The army has greatly reduced the number of Kassams being fired from Gaza, though not enough," Vilnai said. Moyal, asked for his reaction to Vilnai's words, said, "I am no longer the mayor, so I need not respond."
Moyal has been the mayor of Sderot for just over nine years, and the city has been battered by an estimated 6,300 rockets over the past six years. The residents' ongoing suffering began when Sderot was first shelled with mortars by Arab terrorists from Gaza in April 2001, and the first Kassam rocket hit the city less than a year later.
6,300 rockets? Give 'em a state! And munitions! And guns! And billions! And respect of the international communitay!
A Sderot woman responded to Moyal's resignation by saying, "I congratulate him for his courage and for taking responsibility, and I hope that the nation's leaders will also take responsibility. If they don't know what to do, then let them give the reins over to those who do know how to give the proper response. Yesterday, we gave them a little blow [with a small-scale military offensive into Gaza - ed.], and they retaliated with a barrage of Kassams; we need to strike them so hard that they won't have the ability to retaliate against us."
"I call upon the Prime Minister," she continued, "to take responsibility for at least something in this country; he doesn't take responsibility for the Second Lebanon War, nor for education, nor for what is going on here on
the border of Gaza."
Reader Robert wrote, "I am absolutely baffled by PM Olmert's lack of response to the repeated Qassam missle launches into Israel. How long do you think it would take him to respond if they were launching them into Olmert's home or his office? For that matter, how long would it take for Americans to change their minds if those missles were landing in Nancy Pelosi or Condi Rice's backyards? A different view would prevail. Also, I re-read your historic article on President Jefferson's means of dealing with the Islamic terrorists of his time. Great article and it should be included in the public school system's American History curriculum."

UPDATE: G-d bless Gaydamak. But it's not the answer. Self defense is the answer.

I would think that the people of Sderot need to arm themselves and plan and execute retaliatory attacks on the palis.
I know the Israeli soldiers and police will be sent against them. But will they accept to disam their people, in their country, against the enemy?

painlord2k: yes. They will disarm their people, in their country, against the enemy. Ms. Geller posted an article within the last couple of weeks about Israeli police going from one Jewish village to another, slowly confiscating weapons (dare I say it? - like the Nazis - what have we come to?).
