VIVA KING CARLOS! LONG LIVE THE KING!
Mara sent this pearl along. LOL! Go King Carlos! I am not pro monarchy either but that doesn't mean they all suck. The King kicks serious thug ass.
I'M NOT PRO-MONARCHY in the sense that I don't believe that any office should be hereditary, including the head of state. But I can't help but cheer on king Juan Carlos today<
‘Why don’t you shut up!’
The words of King Juan Carlos 1 of Spain to the Venezuelan President, Hugo Chávez, in the closing session of the Latin American summit today.
The Spanish monarch lost his cool when Chávez called the ex Spanish Prime Minister, José María Aznar, a fascist on several occasions. King Juan Carlos then got up and walked out of the session in a gesture without precedent, and just in time to hear the Nicaraguan President, Daniel Ortega, criticising Spanish businesses and the role of Union Fenosa in Nicaragua in particular. The King was to return later, but was not present for the singing of the Chilean hymn which closed the debates
xdhimmi added;
Chavez insulted Spain. Even Zaptero reprimended him. Chavez, the eternal playground bully, told Zaptero (in essence), "Oh yeh? Who's gonna make me? You and whose army?"
All this isn't surprising at all since Chavez was lauded for doing his sulfur routine at the U.N., and no public U.S. official even frowned.
[QUOTE]
Spanish Prime Minister, José Luis Rodríguez Zaptero tried to get Chávez to moderate his speech, saying it was necessary to respect others, speaking in defence of Aznar.`I can be in a completely different ideological position and I am not close to the ideas of Aznar', said Zapatero, 'but he was chosen by the Spanish people and I demand that respect', said Zapatero.
To this Cháves replied that he had the right to say what he liked. [END QUOTE]

Juan Carlos also played a crucial role in turning Spain into a democracy. Fascist Franco died and wanted Juan Carlos to become his successor. But instead of ruling as a dictator he began to democratize the country. Some years later he defended freedom and democracy against an military coup again.

Chripa, I was in Spain when that attempted coup happened.
King Juan Carlos did inherit his position, yes, but like any good king, he uses his position for the GOOD of SPAIN, not for his own personal good.
The Spanish people have a lot of good reasons to be proud of their king, especially having the cajones to tell that thug, that Fidel Castro wannabe, Hugo Chavez, to shut up in public.
The Venezuelan people are now discovering they were very foolish in falling for the slick words of Hugo Chavez.

Juan Carlos has also been known to stop, when he's riding his motorcycle and encounters a car stalled by the side of the road, and go get them some gas.
Our politicians only do things like that at election time.
