Ugh .... Aussie Jihad Victory
Terrible news. Some things I will never understand. Never. This is one of them. Howard is a great man of historic proportion. A real, true ally in the fight for freedom and the West.
Looks like the Aussie's have handed the jihadis a victory...Howard is out...defeatists in... Hat tip TRK
Rudd, 50, presented himself as a new generation leader by promising to pull Australian combat troops out of Iraq and sign the Kyoto Protocol on climate change, further isolating Washington on both issues.
Rudd is expected to forge closer ties with China and other Asian nations and has said he wants a more independent voice in foreign policy. More here.
As rapper KRS sang in one of his songs "suicide it's a suicide booyaaba"
The Muslims have been making outrageous demands and Howard pushed back. Don't expect same from left loving, stripper cavorting Rudd. Hungry for some uncovered meat?
SYDNEY, Australia (AP) - Conservative Prime Minister John Howard suffered a humiliating defeat Saturday at the hands of the left-leaning opposition, whose leader has promised to immediately sign the Kyoto Protocol on global warming and withdraw Australia's combat troops from Iraq.
Australia has been one of our closest allies and its sad to see PM John Howard this defeat because of the anti war sentiment in Australia and because of his opponents pledge to withdraw Australian troops.
UPDATE: Ugh............... whatta tool
Global warming will be first priority, says Rudd - Telegraph

Bad sign, and I read somewhere the lurch looking America hater from Midnight Oil might get a portfolio or other position in the new government.

What did Mark Steyn say after the 2006 election that brought all these traitors into power in congress? I think he said, "we are all Spaniards now."
Mark Steyn's quote now is applicable to our former staunch allies, the Australians. Any country that appeases the Islamists will suffer greatly as the Australians will find out.

I think the Liberal Party of Australia is just as inept as the GOP is here.
Swaying opinions starts at bottom. It used to be at a bar or any other everyday conversation. Now people rarely socialize, with the drunk driving laws, smoking bans and the electronic entertainment age that part of America is fading away. But there is a new venue, blogs. Yet the GOP leadership (the Dems also) are still living in 1988. The only candidates that are tapping into the power of the internet is a paleo-isolationist nut job.
I also think most western voters don't like the same leader in office much over a decade. I don't know if I was Howard that wanted to remain in office or lack of a candidate to replace him in the Liberal Party but I think it was a huge politcal blunder.

The American elections in 2006 then England and now Australia. It looks like a pattern here to me and of course all the polls show the USA elction in 2008 to also going to the left. The hard right wing is on a bad losing streak.

John Ryan is probably right. I hear all the time about the high negatives for Hillary, but then I try to figure out what blue states would flip over and vote against her. All of the sudden, I am naming electoral states that will never go GOP in any case (NY and the entire northeast, CA and the entire west coast) and what states will not vote for Hillary under any circumstance (southern and sparse western states - CO and AZ will go blue) and the the states that will go from red to blue (IA) and so the whole national race hinges on Ohio, PA, and FLA.
In the interest of keeping this a horserace, the electoral collage will not be discussed until October of next year. But the way I do the addition....it really doesn't look good. I am encouraging someone here in the Atlasphere to tell me I am wrong.

May I humbly request that youse Yanks take your opinions on OUR election and stuff them somewhere we Aussies can't accidentally see them?
How dare you presume to know what's best for us!
So - what's next? You don't like Rudd, so you'll invade and install a more Washington-friendly leader?
Nahhhh - there's no precedent for that, is there!
Is there?
Seriously, folks, if you think the average Aussie voter even GAS about your issues, you're nuts.
This election was fought and won on local issues - as they always are. Issues of local import and of personality of the candidates.
Howard was growing altogether insufferable in his arrogance, and his preferred (pre-nominated) successor was (is) universally disliked.
We Aussies tend to rotate governments every few elections anyway, and it was Labor's turn.
All your comments on Iraq and Muslims (and so on) are so far off-base as to be laughable.
Besides which, Rudd is so far right he's practically a paid-up Liberal anyway.
Now - if "Conga-line-of-suckholes" Mark Latham had won an election - that'd be worth commenting on.
Sheesh. You'd think the whole bloody world revolved around Washington.
Jeff in Sydney.

No Jeff!
This is a guy in Sweden sitting here, thinking what fools the Aussies are. Howard may have been arrogant but he was as close to Churchill the west has seen in a looong time. It's really too bad people tend to stare themselves blind on local issues when there are a lot more serious issues - such as Jihadism. The fact that the Australians voted in Rudd, goes to show that we in the West have completely lost focus. It's just another death throe for western civilization.

If that moronic comment is typical of most Australian voters thinking, it's not so hard to understand after all.

To GoSpencer and lowandslow:
Such amazing insights from halfway around the world.
Every poll taken for two months has predicted this result. It's no surprise and, and it's a result of (I'll type this slowly for you) LOCAL ISSUES.
If you really think Howard was anything like Churchill, you must have a very poor opinion of old Winston. Closest he came was his middle name.
But heck - what do I know? He's been the local member next door to me for the past 25+ years. You probably know him much better, yes?
Gadzooks! He sure had you guys fooled.
Oh, and "lowandslow"... I'd go easy on the wide brush insults if I were you - or do you really admire GWB's articulate displays of intellect?

Fair enough, GoSpencer.
