x dhimmi put together this terrific video from kick ass Atlas reader and activist Rich. xdhimmi, an Atlasite herself, describes the events as such:
For five years the Chester County Peace Coalition (CCPC), directed by Karen Porter, commandeered a corner in West Chester, PA, every Saturday to press on the town's citizens the CCPC's version of fighting for peace. Tired old Vietnam-era anthems, signs bearing clichés, and self-righteousness were the scene every weekend.
Navy veteran and town resident Rich watched all this and recalled how the Vietnam troops were demoralized and felt abandoned by their nation which had sent them to war by similar scenes four decades ago. Finally, Rich decided today's troops would not feel the rejection and distain the Vietnam troops felt. On September 8 (2007) Rich walked alone to the corner dominated by the CCPC and stood silently while raising his own homemade signs urging support for the troops and victory for America. The next Saturday Rich was joined by one more patriot. In reaction to this dignified challenge to their long-time and numerically-superior supremacy, CCPC members ran up to Rich and his fellow patriot, screamed loudly, and cursed. CCPC men bumped Rich and his fellow patriot with their hips, trying to reclaim total control of the public corner. Disfigured American flags were held in front of Rich's and his fellow patriot's signs, hiding them from view of passing motorists and pedestrians. Apparently, the CCPC message was the only one to be tolerated!
The CCPC's newsletter accused Rich of being a "troublemaker, warmonger, prone to violence, never smiling, with a blank inhumane expression on his face," and when five Gathering of Eagles bikers showed up to join Rich's victory contingent on September 29, the CCPC newsletter was filled with bigotry and hysteria.
Every Saturday since, both groups -- CCPC and the Victory Coalition (Rich and a growing number of patriots) -- take their stands at the West Chester street corner. One group wants the kind of peace where people are lulled into believing no problem exists, where one buries their head in the sand and passes the problem on to the next generation. The other group wants peace, too -- the kind of peace which once achieved yields resolution to conflict. One group urges defeat, the other victory.
This video is produced for three reasons:
1. It is a statement to the heroes in the American military serving today: the vast majority of your countrymen and countrywomen are filled with pride over your efforts to defend America and to bring liberty to people who have never tasted of it. We have your backs at home!
2. It contrasts the message of the two West Chester groups of citizens. Which message should we be sending to our military and to our enemies?
3. Lastly, this video shows what happens when a brave patriot, like my friend Rich, steps out to make a righteous stand. Hooah, Rich!
