For better or worse, I've always had to approach the editorial
cartoon work as a "part time" career. I never quit my "day job" as
co-owner of a small newspaper publishing business. The editorial work,
though intellectually rewarding, is not very rewarding financially.
Furthermore, researching the cartoons, writing/designing them, managing
the blog, publishing the books, marketing them, and running the
business side all take an enormous amount of time.
All of that comes with the territory, of course, and John and I have
done pretty well over the last six years. We're fairly well known on
the Internet, we have a few newspaper and magazine clients, we've
self-published four books, and we've made some money, if not a living.
But lately, for reasons I won't go into here, I can no longer afford to
divert so much time and attention away from my publishing business and
other personal concerns, such as my family.
I also want to stop focusing so much of my creative energy on
negative aspects of daily life. There's still an ideological battle to
be fought, not to mention an actual war, and I will stay engaged in
some form and medium. But at this point, anything seems more appealing
than immersing myself in the sewer of daily politics.

Liberals' response to unbridled right-wing speech makes the
Muslims look laid back. Reacting with stupefied indignation whenever someone

liberals — they seem to be in a constant state of outrage. Liberals, and the

it was keen to accommodate the religious beliefs of all staff but some
Islamic scholars condemned the practice, saying Muslims who refused to

WEST CHESTER -- About 50 protesters gathered Saturday to share their views on
the war in Iraq, and their views on protesting outside the Chester County
Courthouse.
A crisp fall
day greeted this band of citizens who gathered at the Chester County Courthouse
to make it known that the protesting 'quakers' and students looking for an easy
'A' , do not speak for ALL Americans.
This display of
Pro American/ Pro Victory support started out as a one-man operation. Rich at
times faced agression by the gathered 'peace' protestors. He has been described
by Karen Porter, director of the Chester County Peace Movement, as a war-monger
who wanted to start trouble at their rally. Nothing could be farther from the
truth. Rich responded to his encounters with the 'peace' protestors with respect
and goodwill, behaviors rarely displayed by Karen and her followers. These are
the same individuals
who attempted to
characterize a retired Veteran's dog as being agressive and a reason for them to
call 911 during the protest if the dog was present.

For five years, I've seen only peace and love on that corner at High and Market Streets. God has been with us every week when we gather there, a sacred place to us. But God wasn't there today for me, and I can only hope He will return.
Instead, I saw raw hatred and death and destruction. I saw a glimpse of the coming end of the America I have loved all my life. I saw "Mad Max" in its destructive, tragic future. I'm not sure if God will come back there. He may be gone forever. Countries and empires fall, and I think this one has seen its best days long ago. What happened at that corner today was a grim and disgusting spectacle, a docudrama of the absurd I can only call "The End of America," a country wallowing in its growing hate and fear. Yesterday I held my 4th counter-protest against 2 Anti-War and Impeach Bush groups. I gave a speech and we had our largest turnout ever.
Their leader, Karen Porter, is upset because I am countering them. She has been used to no opposition for 5 years and when someone finally stands up to her, she has a fit.
Yesterdays counter protest included about 40-50 people on my side, about 10 of them were bikers from Gathering of Eagles and Rolling Thunder and Vietnam Veterans of America. They stood with me with honor and dignity, holding flags and signs I made.
Warms the cockles of my American heart, it does.
They had about 25 protestors on the other side. It was peaceful, legal, and ethical. No ugly confrontations, nothing. Many from both sides were seen having civil discussions - it was disagreement with decency.
Also in attendance were reporters and photographers from 3 newspapers.
I thought Karen Porter would be able to handle a little bit of opposition. I thought she would see how peaceful it was and be gracious and say so.
But much to my amazement, she posted an email on her newletter (here is a link: that blasted me and those who protested against her. She ended up judging the few bikers by how they looked, "like old men whose wet dreams are only fulfilled by sending young men off to die...". or this "Those grey-bearded men in their leather jackets and metal studs, with their phallic motorcycles with hideous roaring engines continue to send off young men to die"
and this: "so it's OK to sacrifice their young to keep alive their never-ending wet dreams."
She even criticized my college daughter who showed up for 5 minutes on her way her part-time job to give me a hug, for "not smiling" and said she will probable grow up to be a war monger.....
Anyone who was there has to be astounded at the remarks in her newsletter.

Let me remind the good folks at the Oak Lawn school district as well as
our Muslim friends that this is America that you are living in, land of
the free.
You are free to send your children to a private school. If we are not
supposed to celebrate our Christian values then how can you force us to
learn about Muslim values? How can you deny your children the fun of
Santa showing up at school or dressing up for Halloween. By the way,
what does Halloween have to do with being Muslim or Christian? It's
just another group trying to mold America into what they think America
should be.
You miss the point. America is a delicate blend of cultures seasoned
with love and acceptance. If you add too much salt, you ruin the stew.
Leave the pot alone, or cook in a different kitchen!
As for pork and jello being served at school lunches, can you just send
a lunch to school with your child? We are a low income family, (but) I
do not accept free lunches for my child; I brown-bag her lunches every
day. I am in control of what she puts into her body. I understand
that it is against the Muslim faith to eat pork, but it is not against
my religion nor the majority of the other children sharing the
classrooms. So again, should the American people just change our
thought and belief system because a few people demand that we do? I
don't think so.

Let me start out by saying I'm an American who has lived 44 of my 55
years here in School District 122 in Oak Lawn. I am not writing this
to start turmoil but to express my personal views which I believe a
majority of people in this district also believe.
I was brought up in America, which was built on Christian morals and
freedom of choice. You didn't have to belong to any special religion
or organizations. No one tried to force their beliefs upon you. We
all had our own beliefs and enjoyed them.
For the most part, we all celebrated holidays with no one being forced
to participate if you chose not to. If you wanted more religion or had
extra needs, you could send your children to parochial or other private
schools. My children have gone to both public and private schools.
Until about five years ago, we enjoyed our American freedoms. Now we
must change our lunch programs, our holidays, and our methods of
teaching.
Classes are held back because numerous students don't speak English.
Much time is spent trying to keep them well-informed. Speaking and
understanding English is part of being an American. This should be the
priority before their education starts. Holding back the other
children while you try to teach those who can't understand just robs
our children of their education.
As far as changing food, why? When my children went to school, I told
them what to eat or not eat. In our situation, it was no meat on
Fridays. This meant my children had cheese pizza or a peanut butter
and jelly sandwich. I didn't go in screaming at the school board "no
meat on Fridays" because we all had rights, and everyone had a choice.
Now a selected few have decided everything should be their way and only
their way. The school seems to be caving in to these selected few and
leaving the rest of us on the outside looking in. The idea of coming
to America is for a new life with all the freedoms we have enjoyed.
This is what makes the new and better life for their families.
We all have beliefs and family traditions. Some are shared, and some
stay in the privacy of our homes. We don't force our ideals on anyone
who doesn't want to be involved. That's because up until now, we all
had the choice!
Let's stop these selected few who have come to District 122 and are
determined to destroy the great system I have observed for more than 40
years. If you take away the freedom our forefathers won for us, that
certainly is not American or fair. I'm for change as much as the next
guy, but change comes from agreeing on issues that don't take away our
freedoms.
I think it's time for the newcomers to realize America is freedom. Our
freedoms happen to be enjoying our holidays, eating our foods and
getting a good education in the manner it was meant to be taught.

failed and that he saw no alternative to a pre-emptive strike on suspected

"is not receiving adequate push-back" from the West.
"I don't think the use
of military force is an attractive option, but I would tell you I don't know

nuclear facilities."
He added that any strike should be followed by an attempt to remove the

Leaders of India's Jewish community said Sunday they are outraged by a new
line of bedspreads called "The Nazi Collection" from a Mumbai-based home
furnishing company that used swastikas in its promotional material.

The dialogue between Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has gained momentum, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said in an interview to CBS. Rice said that during the last round of trilateral talks, in February, Olmert and Abbas had "barely [agreed] to speak to each other, let alone speak about anything of importance."

The secretary of state also said that support in the Arab world for Abbas was critical and pointed out that Quartet Middle East envoy Tony Blair's mission had also "helped people focus on the institutions of statehood, the building of capacity to govern."
Turning to the situation in the Gaza Strip, Rice said that Gaza was not separate from the Palestinian Authority. There aren't two Palestinian [Authorities], Rice said. Rather, she asserted, there was the West Bank and Gaza, and there was going to be a Palestinian state under the leadership of Abbas and PA Prime Minister Salaam Fayad.
