I am sure when this little gem gets picked up defeatocrats and their media handmaidens will scurry for cover like cockroaches when the lights go on. So desperate are the Democrats for America to lose, they will go to extraordianary lengths to withdraw our military forces to insure mass slaughter and bloodshed in Iraq. Lovely policy for the peace conspirators. Fighting the global jihad is hard - here, there, Europe, Iran, Lebanon, Turkey, Somalia, Phillipines, yada yada yada
Who would have thought we would ever see 1200 iraqis lining up for hours to volunteer to fight and kill al-Qaeda. The Muslims Street is taking up arms against al-Qaeda in a big way. I don't see Americans lining up like this to fight al-Qaeda.
UPDATE: And Daryl makes a number of important points:
What is not stated as often as it should be, is that the informational basis for most of the anti-terrorist operations in Iraq are timely tips from concerned Iraqi citizens. The information leading to actions against al Qaeda operatives come from Sunnis in the neighborhood. The information leading to actions against rogue Shi'a militiamen come from other Shi'a citizens.
The ubiquitous cell phone in the hands of the concerned citizen is proving itself to be the most important strategic weapon against the terrorists, whatever their affiliation.
While the Defeat America Now Copperhead media is hypnotized by visions of Vietnam redux. Iraq, even at its worst, which seems now to have occurred before the Anbar Awakening Movement turned the tables in Anbar Province, was NEVER Vietnam.
In Vietnam, we faced an army of over a million trained soldiers, with field artillery, with an modern air force, backed by 600,000 Viet Cong irregulars, and 80,000 double agents buried within the South Vietnamese government, military, and security forces.
The foreign powers, Al Qaeda and Iran, have never enjoyed the equivalent of a Mekong Delta in Iraq. There is no area in which they are so entrenched both in terms of physical presence and in political control of the local population, that American or Iraqi Forces cannot enter except in large numbers with air support. In Iraq, an Iraqi Army or American company can go anywhere, anytime.
The VC and the NVA had the ability to concentrate in brigade and even divisional strength to assault our fire bases. Our positions were only secure when they were defended by battalion size forces.
In Iraq, the terrorists are unable to concentrate even a company sized force for an attack against a Government or Coalition position because their numbers are so few; and because with larger numbers, the local population spot and report on the unusual activity.
As long as we don't tie our own forces in a knot with overly restrictive ROEs, we are going to win this struggle.
Iran's increasingly overt presence in Iraq is clear evidence of this. Risking a direct confrontation with the United States may appear completely reckless, but the alternative, the establishment of the first non-despotic, Islamic civil society on their doorstep, terrifies the mullahs. They fear the inspirations of Freedom, Progress, and Prosperity among their subjects wafting across the frontier will turn into a great gale wind that will blow away their own repressive regime.
They just wouldn't be taking the chances they are taking now, if they didn't see the absolute need to do so. They've hanged too many people from lampposts not to fear coming to the same fate.
There is one thing Iraq has in common with Vietnam, the Copperhead media's effort to demoralize the public and to break the political Will of our leadership.
We must pray that this time they will fail.

I pray that this turn against AlQaeda in Iraq spreads worldwide and the lowdown defeatist Democrats and spineless Republican politicians get booted out of office for trying to inspire our enemies. These losers are helping our enemies by showing weakness in the middle of a bloody war. Shame on all of them.

I disagree with the notion that Americans aren't lining up to fight Al Qaeda. Just because we don't have to stand in an actual physical line when we volunteer doesn't mean we aren't signing up to fight. You simply have to look at the number of people who have enlisted or gone to OCS since the war began.
Though it is great to see Iraqi's taking a stand.

I second GEO's comment. Well said.
