The chemical found at the UN was phosgene, the same chemical used in the manufacture of poison gas during World War One by the Germans, through their supplier Bayer AG of Leverkusen, Germany. Later, Bayer made Zyklon B, the poison gas used by the Nazis to kill hundreds of thousands of Jews in gas chambers during World War Two. Today Bayer makes aspirin.

UN expertise on display! The vials should have been disposed of by a competent agency. The UN could have turned the vials over to FDNY, FBI, or they could have been handed off to European specialist units. The UK and France have been disarming phosgene shells since WW1.
