If the national ADL doesn't acknowledge the genocide, it is complicit in a coverup of the Armenian jihad genocide.
No synonyms for genocide Boston Globe
But the national ADL apparently thinks that it can pick and choose among genocides. Yesterday it fired Andrew Tarsy, the regional director, for urging the national organization to acknowledge the reality of what happened from 1915 to 1917 in what is now Turkey. The ADL plans to run an advertisement in the Globe and other newspapers explaining its position.
In a telephone interview yesterday, James Rudolph, the regional ADL chairman, called Tarsy an extraordinary leader. Indeed, Tarsy was acting in the best ADL tradition of trying to unite people of different ethnic groups, in this case Jews and Armenians, to promote human rights.
The national ADL, in its ad, does condemn the killing of hundreds of thousands of Armenians but can't quite describe this crime for what it was: genocide. The ADL says it is worried about the fate of the Jewish community in Turkey and Turkey's strategic relationships with the United States and Israel.
What Jewish population? There are pratically non Jews left.
What strategic relationship with America? They refused us their assistiance during the Iraq invasion?
But Turkey's treatment of its Jewish minority and its foreign policy shouldn't depend on a historical lie. If the national ADL doesn't acknowledge the genocide, it is complicit in a coverup.
The denial of the Armenian holocaust is an abomination. This is immoral. Foxman is a nightmare, his position an abomination.
DL local leader fired on Armenian issue Boston Globe
The national Anti-Defamation League fired its New England regional director yesterday, one day after he broke ranks with national ADL leadership and said the human rights organization should acknowledge the
Armenian genocide that began in 1915.
The firing of Andrew H. Tarsy, who had served as regional director for about two years and as civil rights counsel for about five years before that, prompted an immediate backlash among prominent local Jewish leaders against the ADL's national leadership and its national director, Abraham H. Foxman.
"My reaction is that this was a vindictive, intolerant, and destructive act, ironically by an organization and leader whose mission -- fundamental mission -- is to promote tolerance," Newton businessman Steve Grossman, a former ADL regional board member, said yesterday.
"I predict that Foxman's actions will precipitate wholesale resignations from the regional board, a meaningful reduction in ADL's regional fund-raising, and will further exacerbate the ADL's relationship with the non-Jewish community coming out of this crisis around the Armenian genocide."
Tarsy, 38, said he had been struggling with the national position for weeks and finally told Foxman in a phone conversation Thursday that he found the ADL's stance "morally indefensible."
The Jews must clearly and definitively recognize the Armenian genocide. The ADL does not speak for the Jewish community. Foxman best represents the diaspora dhimmitude.
The moron Foxman is finally admitting that the ADL was placating the oppressors by attemptng to protect the Jews in Turkey. Protect what jews? The lie that ecumenical and tolerant Turkey is ggood to its Jews is part of the whole
cover up of the history of the Jews in Turkey. The latest figures for the population of the Jews of
Turkey 1is 7,000 but there were 77,000 at the end of World War II. If Turkey is so tolerant why do the Jews flee? Jews like Foxman abet the destruction of their own populations.
Contrary to popular belief, Turkey is not a strategic ally of Israel and certainly not a strategic ally of the US. That was clearcut when Turkey refused to allow the US to invade Iraq from the north.
ANDREW G. BOSTOM: The perversity of denying genocide Providence Journal
THE CAMPAIGN sponsored by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) to combat bigotry and celebrate diversity ("No Place for Hate") has sparked bitter resentment in Watertown, Mass., a Boston suburb whose 8,000 Armenian-Americans make up nearly 25 percent of the population. Local Armenians do not object to the initiative, rather to the group behind it, the ADL and its director, Abraham Foxman - whom they charge, correctly, with denying the ugly established legacy of the World War I era Armenian genocide.
*SPIT*
Under the authoritarian Young Turk (Ittihadist) regime, the bulk of the Armenian population from the territories of the Ottoman Empire - some 1 million to 1.5 million Armenians - were purged by violent and lethal means, which reproduced the historic conditions of a classic Islamic jihad: deportation, enslavement, forced conversion and massacre.
Mr. Foxman maintains that dismantling a program designed to fight hatred simply because the ADL does not share what he refers to as the "Armenians' viewpoint" would be "bigoted." Moreover, Foxman and the ADL, who have spoken out in recent times against ethnic cleansing of Muslims in the Balkans and the genocide against the syncretist black African Animist-Muslims in Darfur, are, in effect, oddly "neutral" on the Armenian genocide: "We're not party to this, and I don't understand why we need to be made party."
But even this morally challenged "neutrality" is disingenuous. According to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency ("Turks want genocide commission," April 23), Mr. Foxman and the ADL are lobbying against legislation recognizing the Armenian genocide in the U.S. House (HR 106) and the Senate (SR 106), including the presentation of letters from the Jewish community of Turkey complemented by, "their own [i.e., the ADL's] statement opposing the bill."
And what is little known or discussed is Jihad as a Major Determinant of the Armenian Genocide (Bostom, America Thinker)
The wartime reports from German and Austro—Hungarian officials also confirm independent evidence that the origins and evolution of the genocide had little to do with World War I 'Armenian provocations'. Emphasis is placed, instead, on the larger pre—war context dating from the failure of the mid—19th century Ottoman Tanzimat reform efforts. [15] These reforms, initiated by the declining Ottoman Empire (i.e., in 1839 and 1856) under intense pressure from the European powers, were designed to abrogate the repressive laws of dhimmitude, to which non—Muslim (primarily Christian) minorities, including the Armenians, had been subjected for centuries, following the Turkish jihad conquests of their indigenous homelands. [16]
Led by their patriarch, the Armenians felt encouraged by the Tanzimat reform scheme, and began to deluge the Porte (Ottoman seat of government) with pleas and requests, primarily seeking governmental protection against a host of mistreatments, particularly in the remote provinces. Between 1850 and 1870, alone, 537 notes were sent to the Porte by the Armenian patriarch characterizing numerous occurrences of theft, abduction, murder, confiscatory taxes, and fraud by government officials. [17] These entreaties were largely ignored, and ominously, were even considered as signs of rebelliousness. For example, British Consul (to Erzurum) Clifford Lloyd reported in 1890,
