MAPPING SHARI’A IN AMERICA PROJECT hat tip Aldee

Washington, DC – The Society of Americans for National Existence (SANE) announced today the launch of the Mapping Shari’a in America Project, the world’s first effort to systematically evaluate the threat that a nation faces from efforts to impose Shari’a within its borders.

The project will collect information about America’s 2,300-plus mosques and associated day schools, provide information to both law enforcement officials and the public, and test the proposition that Shari’a amounts to a criminal conspiracy to overthrow the U.S. government.

Today’s announcement comes after a week-long pilot study of the Dar Al Hijrah Mosque in Falls Church, Virginia, which uncovered clear and convincing evidence of direct and indirect links to violent Jihad. The project is already making this information available to law enforcement and the public.

“Shari’a is not merely speech, and it is certainly not religion as understood by the West,” SANE’s President, David Yerushalmi, said at a morning press conference. “Rather, it is a political and ideological mandate to destroy the West. We believe that every act to teach, preach, and live according to traditional, historical, and authoritative Shari’a contributes to a criminal conspiracy to overthrow our government.”

Dave Gaubatz, who will direct the project, added, “We will rank the mosques and schools in terms of their adherence to Shari’a and, in turn, the risks they pose in terms of future Jihadist attacks. We hope that our efforts help inform both law enforcement authorities and the public at large.”

Here’s how the project would work:

2. A team of seasoned intelligence and counter-terrorism experts and Islamic scholars (Arabs, Christians and Jews), many fluent in Arabic, Urdu, and Farsi, will visit America’s 2,300-plus mosques and associated day schools and collect information that includes statements by their leaders, the literature they use, the level of orthodoxy in prayer and discussion.

Through this investigation, which will last about a year, the project will develop two products:

• First, for law enforcement officials, an interactive, cross-indexed mapping and ranking of Shari’a (ranked from 1-10) as it is preached, taught, and observed in each of the mosques and Islamic day schools.

• Second, for the public, an open access portal that provides the ranking of individual mosques and schools. The project is designed with two goals in mind.

• First, to test the thesis that Shari’a amounts to a criminal conspiracy to overthrow the government of the United States by undermining the Constitution. Thus, Jihad or terror (i.e., the murder of innocent Americans), is a tactic, not a goal, of Shari’a.

• Second, to test the hypothesis that one can identify and interdict much of the early ground work for establishing Jihadist cells and networks by identifying mosques and Islamic day schools that are teaching and preaching traditional and authoritative Shari’a.

If the project establishes the link between Shari’a and the threat to the United States from Jihad, project leaders will then advocate for the criminalization of Shari’a – that is, to treat it as a criminal conspiracy to undermine the Constitution and to commit murder and treason.

 

Question: What is the Mapping Shari’a in America Project? Answer: The Mapping Shari’a in America Project is the first effort in the world to map and index the threat to a country, in this case the US, from the observance, teaching, and preaching of Islamic Law or Shari’a.

Question: How will the Mapping Shari’a Project be accomplished?

Answer: A team of seasoned intelligence and counter-terrorism experts and Islamic scholars (Arabs, Christians and Jews), many of whom are fluent in Arabic, Urdu, and Farsi, will go to the 2300+ mosques and associated day schools around the country as guests, invitees and members of the public and collect empirical data including the names of the religious and lay leadership, make covert audio and visual recordings where legally permitted, collect written literature, photographs, and personal contacts, etc. The specific data collection methodology is based upon a developed and objective field protocol prepared by seasoned counter-terrorism and intelligence professionals with years of experience dealing with Muslim terrorist networks and groups in the Middle East and in the West. The team also includes a high-profile former Arab Muslim-born terrorist turned Islamic reformer.

This field data will be inputted into a data base where it will be analyzed via Link Analysis software together with other data from a variety of open sources including but not limited to the MIPT Terrorism Knowledge Base.

Upon the completion of the full data set (approximately 12 months), a further analysis utilizing cross-referenced indexing and a ranking matrix will be applied. The result will be a rank ordering of the Shari’a-Jihad threat level of any given mosque or Islamic day school. The ranking will be based upon an empirical, testable, and replicable methodologically objective matrix.

The final deliverable will be an interactive, cross-indexed mapping and ranking of Shari’a as it is preached, taught, and observed in the mosques and Islamic day schools across America.

Each location will be ranked from 1 – 10, with 10 being the highest Shari’a observance and Jihad threat level.

2. We will develop a public, open access portal to our basic interactive on-line indexed map and a subscription-based version with full access to our methodological tools and source links for law enforcement, counter-terrorism experts, and policy professionals. Question: Why map and index Shari’a and not just terrorists or their cells or Jihadists? Doesn’t this smack of a violation of the First Amendment Freedoms of Religion and Speech?

Short Answer: The purpose of Mapping Shari’a is to test empirically the policy initiative which calls for the criminalization of traditional and authoritative Shari’a as a criminal conspiracy to overthrow the government of the United States by undermining the Constitution. The use of Jihad or terror (i.e., the murder of innocent Americans), is a tactic not a goal of Shari’a.

Extended Answer: For over 1000 years, Islam as a political ideology has been defined by its law. Even during periods when Islamic rulers and their empires studiously avoided the careful observance of Shari’a, Muslims the world over still understood Islamic law as ultimately supreme.

Indeed, unlike western notions of law, Shari’a is generally understood by observant and even non-observant traditional Muslims as Allah’s expression of law as “Right Action”, meaning a divinely mandated, transcendent, universal law that applies to all men, everywhere and at all times. There is no aspect of an observant or traditional Muslim’s life that is not circumscribed by this law even if a given Muslim or Muslim nation fails to live up to its standards.

Islam as mandated by its law is a political ideology calling for the world to be ruled according to Shari’a. All four of the major historical, traditional, and authoritative Sunni schools of Islamic jurisprudence and the one major Shia school hold fast to this political goal.

This world wide domination is to be accomplished in the first instance by persuasion. This is the effort to convert the infidels to Islam peacefully. If this does not work, the Muslim people or Ummah as a collective obligation, and according to some interpretations, as an individual one, are to wage Jihad or struggle to more forcefully persuade the infidels to convert. If persuasion is not effective, the Jihadists are to force the non-Muslims to submit to subjugation (known today as dhimmitude). Finally, if subjugation is either not successfully imposed or not an option, the Jihadists are to wage a murderous war until Islamic law is the law of the land throughout the world. Jihad includes a variety of forms of “struggle”. While Muslims interested in western-style propaganda and PR like to speak of Jihad as a personal struggle within each Muslim, which it is, Jihad is, and has been historically, war as a military campaign to conquer the land of the infidels. And, most importantly, this is what Jihad is according to Shari’a – the law which binds all observant and traditional Muslims to Allah.

It's not the first of its kind, but I only can do so much with one pair of hands. When I was informed of this project a few months ago, I decided that I would concentrate more on my blogging and less on mapping. I wish them the best. We need such a project to be taken seriously, contributed to and supported.
