BOMBING LAS VEGAS
The future is here and it ain't pretty Be we knew that.
One dead as explosion rocks Las Vegas hotel ADP
LOS ANGELES (AFP) - An employee of a Las Vegas hotel was killed after an explosion in the resort's car-park early Monday, police in Nevada told AFP.
The man, whose identity was not disclosed, died after picking up an object in the parking structure of the famous pyramid-shaped Luxor Hotel on the busy Vegas strip. A second person was hospitalised in the incident.
Police gave no further information about the cause of the blast but local media reports suggested that explosives had been stuffed into a back-pack placed on top of the dead man's car.
A backpack bomb.
UPDATE Are they fucking kidding? Talk about a rush to judgment.
"Police said the blast was not a terrorist act, but an apparent slaying with an unusual murder weapon." hat tip 1trk
What' s the bomber's name?
UPDATE: LAS VEGAS (AP) - One person was killed and another was hurt Monday in an explosion in a parking lot outside a Las Vegas Strip resort, authorities said. A man removing a backpack from atop his car died of injuries he received when the pack exploded a little after 4 a.m. on the second floor of the parking structure behind the Luxor hotel-casino, said Officer Bill Cassell, a police spokesman.
The second person was taken to an area hospital. Aerial video from news helicopters showed no apparent damage to the parking structure, where entrances were blocked while police, firefighters and federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents investigated around a vehicle. The Luxor is a pyramid-shaped hotel at the south end of the Las Vegas Strip More here
UPDATE: News trickles in. Apparently not terror and not a bomb either. hat tip Gink
Luxor Explosion Victim from Mexico
The man killed in an explosion Monday at the Luxor resort was identified by family members as 21-year-old Antonio Willebaldo-Dorantes.
Willebaldo-Dorantes worked at Nathan's Deli, a fast food restaurant inside the Luxor. Family members tell Channel 13 Action News he was an immigrant from Mexico, working to send money to his family back home. Police had not confirmed the name by Monday night...
...This happened on the roof of the Luxor public parking garage. Sources with the casino as well as with Metro confirm there was a cup on the roof of the victim's car. When he walked over to pick it up, it exploded, killing him.
It was a cup? Not a backpack? WTF?

My feeling on this one is that it was not "Jihad" in America, but rather some kind of hit on a particular person. At least that's the feel I get from the reports.
Though, how easy was it for someone to set a backback bomb in the underground parking lot of a major hotel. Now, that is frightening.

If we never learn the man's name, then we have learned all we need to know about this bombing.

Jenn, this is a free country. How hard do you think it *should* be to bring your backback to a hotel?!?
That's why we have to destroy their ability to wage war from the homelands. We can't impose the kind of lockdown martial law that it would take to stop this. Imagine what kind of police state would stop people with backpacks from driving to hotels!
I don't want to live there. Do you?

Thanks for the link akak.
Sounds like the mayor is a perfect pragmatist. Hey, don't beef up security it might be temporarily bad for business!
Well, what about if a major hotel was blown up like WTC?

Sure there was no terrorism involved. Just like that attack on the El Al Counter in Los Angeles a few years ago. What Dorks the vegas Police are. Where is Gil Grissom when you need him?

So a video tape was found in Madrid of Muslims casing casinos and hotels in Vegas. Another tape or tapes is/are found in Detroit. The mayor of Vegas wants it all covered up. What a maroon!!!!
Yeah, typical American bureaucrat/gutless and dickless wonder/politician-prostitute wants to stick his head in the sand and not deal with it.
Mayor Goodman's a shithead.

Before you jump to conclude that the "brown menace" is responsible, you might consider that mob justice has been meted out in this manner, in Vegas, on previous occasions.

Or maybe it was Mayer Lansky.
Posted by: duncan | Monday, May 07, 2007 at 08:13 PM
I thought it was 'Meyer Lansky'; no matter, it was probably Yiddish originally, anyway.
The cops say it actually wasn't a backpack, just some sort of other bomb. Sounds a lot like a mafia hit to me; the device apparently wasn't big enough to cause a lot of damage, other than killing the person who picked it up. No evidence that it was a jihadi, at least not yet.

Jester, thanks for clearing something up that has been puzzling me for a while. It's only recently that I have been hearing the term "brown". I thought it was a synonym for "minorities" (itself an anti-concept). But your statement brings this into stark focus.
Your usage of it makes one uber-collective from the previously-separate collectives of blackdom, hispanicdom, Aleutian Islander, and dar-al-islam.
So it's not possible to see that islam is committing terrorism all over the world (including in the US) without hating "the brown menace".
This term does not serve to identify something or add to understanding of anything. It serves to obscure.
Now why would you want to do that?
Posted by: Bearster | Monday, May 07, 2007 at 10:48 PM
Bearster, not my term, google it and Michelle Malkin is your #1 result.
I was using it to riff on the dreaded "red" menace of the cold war.
I said nothing about hate, I suggested that the blame lay elsewhere. Malkin et al have tied immigration to the GWOT, not I.
As far as I know, there are no Aleutian muslims.

It's as if you read my post without any comprehension whatever.

It's called irony, bearster, look into it.
Every time I try to respond to you, it's like trying to teach a pig to sing so I will refrain from engaging you in the future.
My previous diagnosis of you as a mere sociopath was short of the mark.
Bu bye.
