Another "11" attack
Al Qaeda Car Bombs in Alegeria
Another 11th attack. Today is the 5th anniversary of the 2002 synagogue bombing ( "the world's oldest synagogue") on the Tunisian island of Djerba
It seems they want to mark every month with a day of murder and terror. 9/11/2001 USA attack, 3/11/2004 Madrid Spain attack, 7/11/2006 Mumbai train bombing, the 3/11/2007 Casablanca bombing and now the 4/11/2007 Algiers bombing and all done by al-Qaeda
UPDATE: Zawahiri says Algeria's GSPC has joined Al-Qaeda
Hindustan Times
One of the bombs targeted the prime minister's headquarters in the Algerian capital. Osama bin Laden's right-hand man Ayman al-Zawahiri claimed in a video message that a radical Algerian Islamist group had joined Al-Qaeda and warned it would be a "thorn in the throat" of the West.

UPDATE: Heads up on 4/11! Al Qaeda in North Africa picked April 11th for this attack because it's the 5th anniversary of the 2002 synagogue bombing on the Tunisian island of Djerba. That largely forgotten bombing was Al Q's first "success" outside Asia after 9/11, and was linked to the GSPC, which has now become Al Q in the Maghreb. Perhaps, as one reader surmises, they chose this date in order to send a signal that this attack is part of the group's effort to become a regional force around the Mediterranean.
UPDATE:. Officials: Algerian Bombing Is First Wave of New Al Qaeda "Spring Offensive" ABC News
A terrorist bombing in Algeria today that claimed 30 lives is just the opening strike of a broad "Spring Offensive" by al Qaeda, which plans to use a newly-expanded network of operatives to strike targets throughout Southern Europe and North Africa, according to French and Algerian intelligence sources.
French intelligence officials tell ABC News they have recently increased to 45 the number of terrorist cells they have identified operating in their country, and that they have been on "high alert" for several months. Algerian intelligence sources likewise say they believe "dozens" of terrorist cells linked to an Al Qaeda affiliate have been deployed throughout North Africa.
The Algerian terrorist group thought to be at the center of the offensive, known as "Al Qaeda in the Maghreb," claimed responsibility for today's attacks in a video statement posted on the internet. The post contained three photos of suicide bombers they claimed carried out the attack, and an ominous note that the bombing was "the first of its kind."
According to an Algerian security official close to the investigation, preliminary evidence collected by investigators indicates that "the types of explosives and modus operandi" used in the attack are similar to those used by anti-Western forces in Iraq. The security official told ABC News that the evidence appeared to confirm recent intelligence that at least a dozen Algerians had recently returned from fighting for Al Qaeda in Iraq with instructions to conduct terrorist attacks.
According to French and Algerian intelligence officials, Algerian jihadis like these, veterans of the fight against U.S. forces in Iraq, are central to the offensive, which has been planned for months and is believed to target locations in France, Italy, Spain, Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria. A French intelligence official told ABC News that counterterrorism authorities in his country
have been on high alert for several months.April 11th's bombing was only the most recent by the Algerian jihadi group. In February, the group claimed responsibility for seven simultaneous bombings outside police facilities in two Algerian provinces, which reportedly killed six people.

Maybe the French could give Al-Quaeda the city of Paris and they'd quit this idiocy. Oh, wait..they already have most of Paris. OK, Nice and Cannes then. Lots of thongy almost-bare women they could force into beach burkhas.

Al-Qaeda attacking fellow Muslims. I wonder what Mohammad would think of that????
Then again, Sunnis killing Shi'ites and vice versa.
Peaceful religion my white butt.
It's time to pull out the stops, bomb the shit out of northern Afghanistan, Agent Orange the poppy fields and flatten Baghdad, Najaf, Herat and Kabul to rubble. Tell them, "Next time you pull something we'll use nukes."
