GERMAN JUDGE:OK TO BEAT WIFE, IT'S IN THE KORAN
Germany succumbs. Beat, rape stone ..............hey, it's in the Koran. So Germany is down with that. MULTICULTURAL!
He beat her and threatened her with murder. But because husband and wife were both from Morocco, a German divorce court judge saw no cause for alarm. It's a religion thing, she argued.
The Koran seems to have become the basis for a court decision in Frankfurt.
The case seems simply too strange to be true. A 26-year-old mother of two wanted to free herself from what had become a miserable and abusive marriage. The police had even been called to their apartment to separate the two -- both of Moroccan origin -- after her husband got violent in May 2006. The husband was forced to move out, but the terror continued: Even after they separated, the spurned husband threatened to kill his wife.
Not that strange considering how Europe has surrendered to Islam.
A quick divorce seemed to be the only solution -- the 26-year-old was unwilling to wait the year between separation and divorce mandated by German law. She hoped that as soon as they were no longer married, her husband would leave her alone. Her lawyer, Barbara Becker-Rojczyk agreed and she filed for immediate divorce with a Frankfurt court last October. They both felt that the domestic violence and death threats easily fulfilled the "hardship" criteria necessary for such an accelerated split.
In January, though, a letter arrived from the judge adjudicating the case. The judge rejected the application for a speedy divorce by referring to a passage in the Koran that some have controversially interpreted to mean that a husband can beat his wife. It's a supposed right which is the subject of intense debate among Muslim scholars and clerics alike."The exercise of the right to castigate does not fulfill the hardship criteria as defined by Paragraph 1565 (of German federal law)," the daily Frankfurter Rundschau quoted the judge's letter as saying. It must be taken into account, the judge argued, that both man and wife have Moroccan backgrounds.

hey! how's that hangover, mama?

That's all. Stick a fork in Germany; it's done.
Will the rest of Europe follow, or will the other nations of the Old World see sense before they reach the point of no return?

Unbelievable. Sick, sick, sick.

Ok, so Germany agrees German law is subservient to Koranic law? My guess is that it is against German law to beat your wife. So why is the judge doing the equivalent of taking his German exam in Arabic? The German teacher doesn't care that you know how to speak Arabic, the test and the class are intended to teach German.
Remember, Germany has made Scientology against the law. When I first heard this, I thought it was a bad idea (looking at it from an American point of view). But maybe they are on to something. Maybe Germany will survive if they make Islam against the law as well.

First of all, I share Miss O'Hara's sentiment of "Unbelievable. Sick, sick, sick."
The important thing to realize, however, is that the vast majority of Germans agree with this sentiment as well.
One, as the above Spiegel article itself makes clear towards its end, there are numerous German politicians---both of the mainstream right-wing party (the Christian Democrats) *and* the mainstream left-wing party (the Social Democrats)---who are calling not only for the ruling to be overturned, but also for the judge to be removed from the bench.
Two, peoples should not be confused with their governments. This is especially the case in looking at the European response to growing Islamism. Indeed, recent public opinion polling by Pew Global has found that not only the German public, but also the French public are more negative on growing Islamism than the American public!
Pew Global asked two pertinent questions (see http://pewglobal.org/reports/display.php?ReportID=254):
1) "Is Islamic identity among Muslims in your country growing?"
2) Of those who said "Yes" to (1), "Is Growing Islamic Identity Good or Bad?"
Here's the proportions of the American, French, and German pollees who both answered "Yes" to (1) and "Bad" to (2) and thus, I'd say, should be seen as quite worried about growing Islamism in their countries.
USA - 22% [i.e., 47% saying "Yes" to (1) times 46% saying "Bad" to (2)]
France - 59% [i.e., 68% saying "Yes" to (1) times 87% saying "Bad" to (2)]
Germany - 60% [i.e., 72% saying "Yes" to (1) times 83% saying "Bad" to (2)]
(NB: At the risk of overemphasis, please note the USA number is *not* the number of Americans who think militant Islam is bad. Again, it's the number that say there's "growing Islamic identity" *in the USA itself* and believe that that "growing Islamic identity" is bad.)
On this note, I think Abu Daboo Doo at Bedrocki's point is quite apt. Germany does not have free speech & religion protections that are anything like current US interpretation of the First Amendment. The German government can simply outlaw sects or ideologies as detrimental to society as it's done with Scientology, and more famously and obviously, with Naziism. If stuff like this court ruling keeps happening and you keep having 60% of the populace or more worried about the issue, I think there's likely going to be a move to do this.

and of course, let's make sure to incorporate European law into our own judicial system as desired by many on the left. Huh huh... Yep, we should do 'dat.
