NYC To Open Arabic Public School
This is wrong. Bad message. ASSIMILATE. It's like watching a train wreck in slow motion. No school vouchers or tax dollars for religious schools but this is a public school.
City To Open Arabic Public School In Brooklyn NY1 hat tip Jon
The Department of Education says that it will open a public school next fall dedicated to Arabic language and culture.
The Khalil Gibran International Academy is one of 40 new schools that will their debut in the city next September.
Education officials say that although half the classes at the school will be taught in Arabic, they want to enroll a diverse student body.
The school is set to open in Brooklyn.

As usual, a quality NYT article... all bun and no meat. Are there any other "public" schools that are geared/aimed towards one specific language and/or religion? Are there Spanish public schools? Chinese? Hindi? Yiddish???
We're all doomed. Doomed I tell you. Doomed. As they tell you to do on the airplane as it is crashing... bend over, grab your ankles, and kiss your @$$ good bye.
Paristine. Londonostan. New Yorkarabia???

To All: Are we or are we not at war with the Arabs? Shouldn't we learn their "language" and so-called "culture'?

Robert, I agree that we should learn about their language and culture. But it should be in the way of knowing our enemy. Do you really think there will be ANY critical discussion on the way Arab culture treats non-Muslims, gays, union members, Jews, Christians, atheists, Buddhists, Sikhs, Hindus, etc.? Remember, this is a PUBLIC school in Brooklyn. It will have all the flaws of public schools, and will be a place to propagandize children who don't know enough to know when they are being mislead. For that matter, how many college kids are subjected to the bias of University learning before they realize it (after having to get a job and actually make their own way in the world)?

anybody have an idea where we can get a list of the other schools alluded to and how we can contact someone about this decision? Abu Daboo...funny you mentioned university bias. I just got in to it with a 'university lecturer' from the UK in a group. Of course she spouted the typical 'I'm ashamed of what my country is doing to others blather with a good dose of global warming hysteria and an anti-capitalist screed' Europe is gone, the UK is going, and if this public school thing is any indication, NY is going too.

PS 911-- Good one! AKA "Shaheed Elementary School", with shop classes such as "IED 101" and "Sew Your Own Burqa's"?
Is there ANY non-English speaking country in the world where I can go to and expect PUBLIC school to be taught in English?
What's irksome is not necessarilly the Arabic thing; just the fact that this is enforcing segregation for whose benefit? If people don't assimilate to their host country, who ultimately loses? The "educators" of NYC can't learn lessons from what's going on all over Europe now, in France, in England, etc. where "multiculturalism" and "tolerance" have created entire cities of non-working hostile "citizens" who can't even speak the language of the host country (to which THEY CHOSE to move)?
