"I AM THE MOST POWERFUL WOMAN IN AMERICA"
WTF? Who talks like that? What kind of people are these? Imagine a Republican throwing that one out there. She has hosted and given more parties, lunches and teas than the allies on V day. Oh and she is naming a street after herself. I'm serious. Wake the witch up -- she's a public servant for keyryst's sake.
After calling herself "the most powerful woman in America," Mrs. Pelosi flexed her right muscle like a weight lifter to much applause at an event yesterday titled a "women's tea."
"All right, let's hear it for the power," she screamed as the jubilant applause continued.
When Mrs. Pelosi tried leaving the podium, Rep. Rosa DeLauro, Connecticut Democrat, asked her to stay.
"There is so much love and warmth that's in this room today and that's because of the new speaker," Mrs. DeLauro said. "And that tells you about what the future is all about in the House of Representatives." More here.
UPDATE: All the tripe that's fit to run, the libmedia can't get enough of that funky stuff. Here a re some excerpts of Pelosi's full remarks here in WaPo;
But I am so happy that my brother Tommy D'Alesandro, who was also a mayor of Baltimore, is here leading the D'Alesandro family from Baltimore today.
(APPLAUSE)
He's sitting right up there with Tony Bennett.
(LAUGHTER)
Bwhahahahahahahaha

For our daughters and our granddaughters, today we have broken the marble ceiling.
Jane Harman!
(APPLAUSE)
The election of 2006 was a call to change, not merely to change the control of Congress, but for a new direction for our country. Nowhere were the American people more clear about the need for a new direction than in the war in Iraq.
(APPLAUSE)
A new direction? What direction would be better than winning the war the Islamists began? American wants to win San Fran Nan make no mistake about that.
The American people rejected an open-ended obligation to a war without end.
Wrong. Until we won. America must beat back the jihad.
Shortly, President Bush will address the nation on the subject of Iraq. It is the responsibility of the president to articulate a new plan for Iraq that makes it clear to the Iraqis that they must defend their own streets and their own security, a plan that promotes stability in the region and a plan that allows us to responsibly redeploy our troops.
Withdraw and weaken America's standing in the world . The paper tiger indeed. Cutting and running from the war on the jihad. Preesdient Bush does not answer to you.
(APPLAUSE)
Let us be the Congress that never forgets our commitment to our veterans and our first responders, always honoring them as the heroes that they are.
Pork oink oink.
(APPLAUSE)
The American people also spoke clearly for a new direction here at home. They desire a new vision, a new America built on the values that have made our country great.
Not a leftarded one, I assure you.
Now it is our responsibility to carry forth that vision of a new America into the 21st century.
A new America that seizes the future and forges 21st century solutions through discovery, creativity and innovation, sustaining our economic leadership and ensuring our national security.
Try not to kill those very things SFN.
A new America with a vibrant and strengthened middle class for whom college is affordable, health care is accessible, and retirement reliable.
European socialism!
(APPLAUSE)
PELOSI: A new America that declares our energy independence, promotes domestic sources of renewable energy, and combats climate change...
Oh does that mean we can drill for our own oil offshore and ANWAR? Hoorah!
(APPLAUSE)
... a new America that is strong, secure, and a respected leader among the community of nations...
(APPLAUSE)
... and the American people told us they expected us to work together for fiscal responsibility, with the highest ethical standard and with civility and bipartisanship.
Yeah together, got a bridge I might buy?
(APPLAUSE)
After years of historic deficits, this 110th Congress will commit itself to a higher standard: Pay as you go; no new deficit spending.
Translation: NO MORE TAX CUTS
(APPLAUSE)
Our new America will provide unlimited opportunity for future generations, not burden them with mountains of debt.
Really? Welfare, medicare, medicaid, social security for illegals, entitlement, entitlement entitlements. Teach children SELF RELIANCE San Fran Nan!
(APPLAUSE)
In order to achieve our new America for the 21st century, we must return this House to the American people. So our first order of business is passing the toughest congressional ethics reform in history.
It was in our hands sweetie.
(APPLAUSE)
PELOSI: This new Congress doesn't have two years or 200 days. Let us join together in the first 100 hours to make this the Congress, the most honest and open Congress in history.
One hundred hours.
(APPLAUSE)
This openness requires respect for every voice in the Congress. As Thomas Jefferson said, every difference of opinion is not a difference of principle.
Trust me, between Pelosi and Ellison, Jefferson is spinning out in his grave.
My colleagues elected me to be speaker of the House. The entire House. Respectful of division of our founders, the expectations of our people and the great challenges that we face, we have an obligation to reach beyond partisanship to work for all America.
Where is Jane Harman?
[...]
(APPLAUSE)
PELOSI: May God bless our work, and may God bless America.
(APPLAUSE)
Before we move forward -- because there are so many children here and so many of them asked me if they could touch the gavel, I wanted to invite as many of them who wanted to come forward to come join me up here. I know my own grandchildren will.
Exploiting the children.
Let's hear it for the children. We're here for the children.
The children.
(APPLAUSE)
Children -- again.
The children. Saddam loved to play the children card too.
(APPLAUSE)
For all -- for these children, our children and for all of America's children, the House will come to order.
All the children my ass. With all those back breaking entitlement programs. You want to save the children? Cut taxes, enforce immigration laws, cut entitlement programs, teach self reliance, kill multicultural curriculum, support school vouchers, encourage chrter schools, free markets, and fight the damn jihad. That will save the children.
Oh yeah, check out your collegue lefty Levin:
Sen. Levin
Supports Temporary Surge of U.S. Troops in Iraq
(I guess the left wants to take credit for winning the war. Let them. As long as we do the right thing, who cares?)
UPDATE: I am PAJAMA GIRL! The Vlog is front page at Pajama Media. Me and the dead Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei of Iran (a PJM Exclusive)....talk about juxta positioning.
UPDATE: Nancy Fest gone wild;
The cannoli at the reception after the morning Mass were from the bakery on the street in Baltimore's Little Italy where she grew up. The white lilies on the altar were her favorite flower. The chapel belonged to Trinity University, the Roman Catholic women's college she graduated from in 1962.
"We've waited over 200 years for this time," Pelosi said at an afternoon tea turned power rally. "America's working women, women working at home, whatever they choose to do, they have a friend in the Capitol of the United States."
Oh puhleeze. Shut up with the woman thing. Who cares. It's so retro and belittling to women. Speaking as woman, I want the best person for the job. I mean who thinks like that anymore?
Five hundred women wore Rosie the Riveter buttons with Pelosi's face superimposed, with pearl earrings, above the slogan: "A woman's place is in the House ... as Speaker." More here

If nothing else good comes out of this idiot being named Speaker of the House, at least American voters will finally get to see Democrats in action and have something to base their vote on in 2008. Now the Democrats are going to have to actually do something besides bitch and moan about Republicans, or Ms. Pelosi's power will be short-lived.

Hmmmm.... I'll bet Senator Hillary Clinton is seeing both red and green after Pelosi said that....

Great Vlog Atlas! Like the mailman, you always deliver!
I could watch you all day, in fact, I think you should make a CD of just you talking (you have the most perfect female voice), I would buy it and play it all day and night, at home and in the car... you could read a phone directory and I would LOVE IT!
Oh, and the content is always so topical, real issues addressed in a down-to-earth way...
Very motivating, as usual, and congrats for picking the Fiskie and the Oriana winners, I agree Coffee Enema should get jail time and Bolton is James Bond -- there's nobody better. I want him for president and clyde for Vice President, or vice versa.. doesn't matter.

It is rather telling that Ms. Pelosi's earliest remarks as Speaker of the House are about "power." This is a glimpse into the soul of the modern democratic party. It's all about power and control. Everything else is secondary.

There's already a street named after Pelosi in San Francisco. It's in the Castro district, and it's named "Uranus".

For those that aren't familiar with San Francisco topography, Uranus Street is in the gay part of town called the Castro District.
I'm not kidding.

"We've waited over 200 years for this time," Pelosi said at an afternoon tea turned power rally. "America's working women, women working at home, whatever they choose to do, they have a friend in the Capitol of the United States."
This is the same mistake leftist women always make -- symbolism over substance! What's important to them is that it's a woman!!
Real successful women, and minorities for that matter, have one key ingredient in common: the ability to look beyond their gender or minority status.
Women like Jeane Kirkpatrick, Margret Thatcher, etc, were respected, not because they were women, but because they were able to look beyond that and do what was neccessary for the greater good. A common trait of conservative women. But rarely found in leftist women.

Well, that's because you have a functioning and intelligent brain. One that hasn't been poisioned with leftist dogma.
For Nan, it's ALL about being a woman. Sheep dip!
Can't wait for '08 to get here...
Posted by: Joseph | Friday, January 05, 2007 at 01:16 PM
Also, speaking as a man (and a conservative one at that), I would not hesitate to vote for a woman who was well qualified for the job and had the right attitude.
All this "our first woman..." stuff just creates animosity between men and women. It keeps the politics of division alive and well! And it always seems to come from the left.
Posted by: Joseph | Friday, January 05, 2007 at 01:35 PM
JOSEPH: All this "our first woman..." stuff just creates animosity between men and women.
==+==
Too, it creates animosity between conservative and leftist women. I pity the first fool who congratulates me on the first woman elected Speaker. I don't want to be identified w/that BS. And it's irritating enough knowing I'm *supposed* to be rejoicing when all I can do is cringe.
Posted by: x_dhimmi | Friday, January 05, 2007 at 02:13 PM
We have got to get more women like you and Pam into office!! We might be able to capture more of that all-important unmarried female vote that way.
I'm crazy about conservative women, btw. Don't ask me why, I just find them to be fascinating. Their women, but their world-view is similar to mine. What makes one person think one way and another think some other way always intrigued me.
Posted by: Joseph | Friday, January 05, 2007 at 02:27 PM

Yeah, Yidwithlid, it sure is unsettling to here someone from a mobbed up family talking about having "the power."
"First, ju get the money, then ju get the POWER, then, ju get the girls."
Posted by: C Max | Saturday, January 06, 2007 at 10:06 AM
the more I think about it the madder I get,
If a republican woman had said, over and over, I am the most powerful woman in the world, and flexed her arm, the media would be all over her, probably calling her "Cowboy Nan" and saying her aggressive tone would send the wrong message to the world.
Yeah, san fran nan can claim to be the strongest woman in the world, but she won't use that strength to discourage jihad against america.
Instead, she will use her power to harrass and attack and demean the republicans and undermine our war and ultimately get more of our troops killed by making them fight a PC war.
Reminds me of the DMV clerk who has "power" - power to make me wait, while she screws up my life....
