To the Senators [Rockefeller and Snowe]  comparison of ExxonMobil's funding of climate sceptics with tobacco-industry funding of research denying the link between smoking and lung cancer, Lord Monckton counters, "Your comparison of Exxon's funding of sceptical scientists and groups with the former antics of the tobacco industry is unjustifiable and unworthy of any credible elected representatives. Either withdraw that monstrous comparison forthwith, or resign so as not to pollute the office you hold."

British Lord Stings Senators Rockefeller and Snowe: 'Uphold Free Speech or Resign'

WASHINGTON, -- Lord Monckton, Viscount of Brenchley, has sent an open letter to Senators Rockefeller (D-WV) and Snowe (R-Maine) in response to their recent open letter telling the CEO of ExxonMobil to cease funding climate-skeptic scientists here.

Lord Monckton, former policy adviser to Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, writes: "You defy every tenet of democracy when you invite Exxon Mobil to deny itself the right to provide information to 'senior elected and appointed government officials' who disagree with your opinion."

In what The Charleston (WV) Daily Mail has called "an intemperate attempt to squelch debate with a hint of political consequences," Senators Rockefeller and Snowe released an open letter dated October 30 to ExxonMobil CEO, Rex Tillerson, insisting he end Exxon's funding of a "climate change denial campaign." The Senators labeled scientists with whom they disagree as "deniers," a term usually directed at "Holocaust deniers." Some voices on the political left have called for the arrest and prosecution of skeptical scientists. The British Foreign Secretary has said skeptics should be treated like advocates of Islamic terror and must be denied access to the media.

Responds Lord Monckton, "Sceptics and those who have the courage to support them are actually helpful in getting the science right. They do not, as you improperly suggest, 'obfuscate' the issue: they assist in clarifying it by challenging weaknesses in the 'consensus' argument and they compel necessary corrections ... "

 

Lord Monckton's Churchillian reproof continues, "You acknowledge the effectiveness of the climate sceptics. In so doing, you pay a compliment to the courage of those free-thinking scientists who continue to research climate change independently despite the likelihood of refusal of publication in journals that have taken preconceived positions; the hate mail and vilification from ignorant environmentalists; and the threat of loss of tenure in institutions of learning which no longer make any pretence to uphold or cherish academic freedom."

There has never been a bigger fraud than anthropomorphic global warming and its junior league of psuedo-scientists.

Climate 'modeling' doesn't even bear the distinction of being remotely scientific other than being able to present reams of scientific looking crap.

At best, it's been a jobs-program for mediocre minds; at worst, it's a program that socialists and luddites adore--it promises to diminish America's technological edge while redistributing untold trillions of dollars.

I saw this earlier today and had the same though, DELICIOUS. Describes the feeling to the tee...

Lord Monckton, Viscount of Brenchley, has grown a giant, titanium clad set of cajones and whacked them right up side the heads of both Rockefeller and Snowe.

I love it! There's almost nothing I like better than to punch holes in the global warming hysteria and watch the kool aid drinkers walk away mumbling to themselves.

Just mention to them the fact that the Vikings used to farm and live on the west coast of Greenland during the MWP (Medievel Warming Period) but basically had to stop do to the LIA (Little Ice Age) all of which happened a LOOOOONG time before so called greenhouse gases where being produced, and watch them go nuts trying to defend their pseudo-science mumbo jumbo.

Or point out the fact that the climate record clearly shows the LIA to have ended, along with the maximum extent of glaciation in Europe etc in the 1600 and those same glaciers that Gore is crying about started retreating THEN, once again a long time BEFORE man started pumping out CO2 in great quantities.

You might ALSO point to the fact that the latest studies out of that HOTBED of Global Warming Hysteria, Britian, show that 18% of the CO2 found in the atmosphere is being caused by cattle versus only 6% by cars (including SUVs) in America and watch there little heads explode.

I could go on and on and on. Of course, there's also the solar cycle that scientists are only NOW starting to understand... LOL

But we have a bigger problem.

Every child educated (?) in government schools for the last several years has been taught this. And a love for learning is generally discouraged so that by the time a kid is ready for college, all most want is to do the minimum necessary to graduate.

So we're getting a new generation of indoctrinated young people. And they can vote.

Lord Moncton is obviously a classical THINKER and well-able to frame the debate precisely where it belongs.

What a shame indeed that these words had to roar across the pond instead of echo from Washington.

Turn, you are 100% correct and it is sooo sad. The indocrination that is occuring is not only taking place in the academic world, just look at TV, movies, magazines, books. It's ALL encompassing and never ending.

Global warming being caused by human activity on this planet is now taken as a 'gospel' fact by virtually everyone.

The very same people who would NOT believe a weather forecast for the next day will swallow, hook, line and sinker, those so called 'climate models' that stretch out for the next 10, 15 20 years.

While totally ignoring documented facts, right before their very eyes, that point the finger towards a more cyclical global cooling and warming mechanisim based upon solar activity and eons long processes of naturally occuring climatic change.

Amazing and so very sad that these people call themselves 'progressives' eh?
