Heroic Minutemen Attacked at Columbia
Just as the world did nothing to stop jihad against Israel and then lived to reap that particular whirlind, just so--as Columbia and other universities did nothing to stop hostility and physical menace against pro-America and pro-Israel speakers, myself included--therefore, the politically correct savages have taken over more and more of the asylum....mainly what happens is that one does not get invited to universities and when and if one does it becomes an ordeal and a performance, not an ordinary teaching opportunity, no civilized exchange of ideas but part of a dreary gladiatorial combat.
I watched the video. This looks terrible. Perhaps the speakers have a lawsuit.
Phyllis Chesler
Another bloody nail in the coffin for America's univerities. Good American men and woman protecting our borders are assaulted at a "veritable" ivy league university that thought nothing of inviting a mad, oppressive, America hating, Jewhating, despot like Ahmadinejad to speak. No security for the Minutemen? Though I am sure they would have protected the ahmadinnerjacket with their lives. Homeschooling is our future.
The BWOG blog was there was pictures, account and VIDEO here.
NY SUN Students stormed the stage at Columbia University's Roone auditorium yesterday, knocking over chairs and tables and attacking Jim Gilchrist, the founder of the Minutemen, a group that patrols the border between America and Mexico.
Mr. Gilchrist and Marvin Stewart, another member of his group, were in the process of giving a speech at the invitation of the Columbia College Republicans. They were escorted off the stage unharmed and exited the auditorium by a back door.
Having wreaked havoc onstage, the students unrolled a banner that read, in both Arabic and English, "No one is ever illegal." As security guards closed the curtains and began escorting people from the auditorium, the students jumped from the stage, pumping their fists, chanting victoriously, "Si se pudo, si se pudo," Spanish for "Yes we could!"
Pamela, lib hawks was in attendence. Here is her account;
I was in that riot at Columbia last night. I was there with NYICE and United American Committee. and wound up on the stage with some of our Patriots once the "students" swarmed on stage with their banners. We were guests of Jim Gilchrist (MinuteMan) and his party backstage. Dr. Corsi was there. Great guy. When Gilchrist was going to speak we all went in to the audience and sat with the Young Republicans. Also, great people. Really nice. We all were concerned that the University wouldn't supply enough security (even though it was requested)
These people OF COURSE were not students! Ugly; Nasty and very rude!! We all left after that (We had to. With escort). Sadly the speech never happened.
There are stills and reports. Something about people kicking people. Wonder if the MSN isn't interested in reporting how their side feels about Freedom Of Speech. What a night.

UPDATE: Phyllis Chesler elaborates on the hostile environment, the thuggery, the dhimmitude, the cowardice.
Of course. Indeed, A spoke at Barnard in 2003 and it was to mainly all women of color and I had to be hustled out for my own safety once I began to tell the truth about Islam. I write about this and it is posted at my website www.phyllis-chesler.com The Barnard administration decided that I, not the audience, had “provoked” the near-riot because I had said “provocative” yet untrue things about Islam. The next time I spoke at Columbia it was at SIPA—and three other important Jewish voices were there to speak as well, invited by graduate Jewish students who could not longer bear the enormous and profound hostility. Notices for the event were torn down and practically no one came. No faculty, no administrators, no students. The next time was as part of Scholars for Peace in the Middle East and guess what? The place was packed, the security was Israeli-like and very serious, protestors marched outside, and during my own speech three Palestinian protestors interrupted in very insulting ways. It did not stop me, I kept speaking but again, it was not an educational kind of moment. My speech is posted at my website and you can see the protestors acting up while I speak.

The funny thing is that you don't see conservatives or generally sane people of any political/religious denomination trying to interfere with the constant stream of psychotic leftists speakers brought onto campuses around the nation everyday. Who knew that being civil would be our downfall?

Thanks for providing the videos, everyone should view them - you won't believe your eyes.
I just emailed the Columbia University president. Here's what I suggested he do:
Apologize to the College Republicans.
Condemn the students who rushed the stage.
Arrest or expel the students who rushed the stage.
Conduct Tolerance Training to staff, faculty, and students.
Resign.

Tragically pathetic event. I am sure Mr. Chavez would be welcomed with tight security and warm hugs.
These people are very lost souls. It reminds me of C.S. Lewis~ The sweet poison of the false infinite.

This is sad, pathetic par for the educational industrial complex course. Once empty minds who are now minds filled with dark matter.

I wouldn't worry too much. In the late 60's it was pro-Vietnam war speakers who were shouted down. In spite of this our generation turned out to be a pretty conservative bunch.

Columbia replied to my email.
It was WEAK, LAME, PATHETIC, TYPICAL.

Columbia University Statement on Disruption of the Columbia College
Republicans' Minutemen Forum
October 5, 2006
Free Speech on Campus is Everyone's Right and Responsibility
The University deplores the disruption that took place last night at
the "Minutemen Forum" sponsored by the Columbia College Republicans
at Alfred Lerner Hall. The specific facts surrounding the incident
are under active investigation by the University and so it is
premature to make any official statement regarding facts that are
yet to be confirmed.
This much is a matter of core principle at Columbia: The freedom to
speak, to pursue ideas, and to hear and evaluate viewpoints totally
objectionable to our own is an essential value of this university
and, indeed, of our civil society. We defend the right to peaceful
protest and expression of opposing views. But it is never
acceptable for anyone to physically take to a stage and interrupt a
speaker.
Our regulations are intended to help event organizers, participants
and protestors maintain a safe environment for members of the
University community and their guests to engage in meaningful and
sometimes contentious debate across the spectrum of academic and
political issues. We will continue to review the events of last
evening to determine how that safe environment was violated and
take appropriate measures to ensure it does not happen again.

Come on, people. Can't you explain the actions of these "protesters" without resulting to partisan name calling? Guess not.

"social inequalities are often produced and perpetuated through systematic discrimination and justified by societal ideology of merit, social mobility and individual responsibility."
Columbia's Teachers College
Does anyone outside of academia really think that "individual responsibility" is a scourge upon our society?

Columbia University: Just kids exercising 1st amendment rights...
I don't get it--College liberals drowning out the same "free speech" that they demand for themselves. Calling the Minutemen racists and murderers. How many of the 1000 illegals that cross our borders every day are killed by Minutemen--or even legal Americans? How many legal Americans (and illegal aliens, here) are killed, raped, or robbed by illegals every year? Racist, why? Because we don't want to provide a market for Mexico's chief exports--their poor & criminal? Because it's not white Canadians who are streaming across our borders? How many Canadians are setting up meth labs here?
What other country prints everything in numerous languages to accommodate those who do not speak the common language? What other country allows non-citizens to come in, settle, and breed without legal authorization. Why do we have to grant citizenship to the offspring of anyone who is here illegally?
Silencing the right and intimidating other students is not a political statement for liberals. It is a way to keep others from hearing anything they don't agree with. If the liberal cause is so righteous, what are they so afraid of? Screaming and disrupting "free speech" on campus, or anywhere, is easier than presenting reasonable debate because they have no intellectual ammunition.
It's just a matter of time before somebody is hurt or killed in confrontations like these. If it's a conservative, there will be a small funeral back home. If it's a liberal it will be headline news for weeks--shades of Kent State! Hilary Clinton and Al Sharpton will burn rubber (and fossil fuel) to beat each other to the cameras and potential voters--publicly demanding change and apologies. The flag will fly at half staff and there will be weeks of mandatory "closure" discussion in every classroom. Counseling will be provided for the grieving anarchist contingent and panels annointed for thorough study and recommendation of what programs will need to be put in place to prevent future tragedies. Police will be blamed and crucified in the news and in the courts.
I wonder how many parents saw the video of their darling little peaceniks "standing up for what they believe in" and felt their chests swell with pride? If that had been my daughter at the end of the video I would have been mortified beyond belief. Is the filthy language she screams at the camera an example of the "higher learning" we pay through the nose for? Not on my dime, girl! A mouth like that doesn't deserve $6,000 worth of orthodontistry -- she'd be spitting teeth like Chiclets when I got to her.
(orthodontistry--probably not a real word but I'm too mad to worry about it)
