Bottom Line on Foley
If what Foley is alleged to have done, exchange overly friendly (sexually explicit) propositioning emails with gay and/or straight male pages under age (after they left the program), he deserves jail. Ba da bing.
Painting the whole Republican party with a pedophilia brush is ridiculous. There is no way any representative would risk his career to cover for a pedophile. Does not compute. Another desperate move by a desperate party five weeks out of an election.
America keep your eye on the ball.
I never heard, "what did the Democrats know and when did they know it," when McGreevey, who left office amid a gay sex scandal, had his expensive gay lover on the government payroll.
Stop the bullshit.
UPDATE: Lopez at NRO writes;
Some points the Speaker's office emphasized on the Foley matter :
—No one in leadership knew about the IMs. They did not surface until Friday.
— The family who contact Rep. Alexander about the e-mail correspondense did not want the e-mails shared.
— The leadership did an internal review immediately as they became aware of the instant messages on Friday.
There's a lot more here.
UPDATE: Hmmmm. the plot thickens. At the American Thinker;
I think there should be an investigation, but the subject of it should not be the Republican leadership which—like the newspaper which had the comparatively mild emails between Foley and a former page — could not investigate further because the parents of the 16 year old who had initiated the correspondence wanted to protect his privacy. These emails, which led to a warning to pages to keep a certain distance from Foley, were of a far different character than the explicit IM messages, which were only revealed to the House leadership after appearing in the press.
Once the House leadership was appraised of the incriminating messages, Foley was in effect cashiered out.
The important matter requiring investigation is how a recently-created anonymous blogger got the email correspondence which the boy’s parents had insisted be kept quiet. And how the blog site, which had virtually no posts and no traffic suddenly caught the attention of Foley’s opponent who immediately asked for an investigation.
How it is that ABC ran with a story based on this blog when a year earlier even the BDS-afflicted Daily Kos rejected as improbable the story that Foley was a predatory troller of interns.
Is it at all believable that overnight after ABC broadcast and published the innocuous email correspondence it was suddenly sent years-old, salacious Instant Messages purportedly between Foley and men (ages and identities not disclosed)? Why were these IM messages ready to be sent off and published at a moment’s notice?
Is it believable that Brian Ross, who has written so many stories that didn’t hold up—including his insistent claim that Speaker Hastert was under DoJ investigation in the face of vehement denials from both Hastert and the DoJ—would write a fair account of the incident?
Is it believable that Soros’ C.R.E.W. did not share the email correspondence it had with ABC, and time the release of them and the announcement that they had forwarded them to the FBI for investigation, to coincide with the ABC story? The IM’s carried the far more salacious content, and their provenance is still murky. When and how did C.R.E.W. come into possession of the IM’s, and when did they contact the FBI?
The timing of the two-step release is critical to the political efficaciousness of the operation. The public is being led to conflate the different sets of correspondence (mildly inappropriate emails versus salacious IM messages), leading most people to believe the sexually explicit stuff was what Hastert had seen.

You end up here at DailyKos before the Foley story broke:
I have been reading with interest the various discussions with regard to Congressman Mark Foley. I am a White House Intern and have been in personal contact with Congressman Foley on numerous occasions.
Today I Googled Congressman Foley and came upon this website:
http://www.stopsexpredators.blogspot.com/
I was just shocked by what I found. I am especially upset by the dismissive attitudes I found on the web from those who know about Congressman Foley's bad behavior in Washington. I'm sure his conservative base in Florida would not approve of him sending these suggestive and leading emails to underage interns.
Only one problem with the alleged intern's post. You can search that domain from now until forever and it doesn't appear to hit to Foley's name. That post has to be bogus.
Gay Patriot has the clearest non partisan take here;
Did it ever occur to Mr. Corn that the representatives and Senators he mentions that may or may not have gay staffers do not care about their sexual orientation yet value their participation as public servants? Is it not rational that you can hire a gay staffer, but at the same time oppose PUBLIC POLICY POSITIONS that you are morally or philosophically opposed to without being labeled a homophobe?
Perhaps Mr. Corn is ignoring the fact that most gay conservatives identify more strongly in our American Identity than our Gay Identity. Did that ever cross your mind, Mr. Corn? Probably not since you seem to have had no problem outing a CIA agent and then letting others take the fall for your actions.
I am not surprised that this is where we are headed. But my question is…. why have our national gay organizations (HRC, Log Cabin, NGLTF) not stepped in to stop this witchhunt which originated on the Gay Left in the first place? I think we know the answer. Tolerance and diversity of opinion is a one-way street for the Gay Liberals and their masters in the Democrat Party.
By the way, the only people that are advancing or talking “The List” that I’ve seen are Liberals! And that List was begun by Gay Leftists years ago.
This witchhunt has got to stop.

America keep your eye on the ball.
That's evidently what Foley did!!!!!

TV Movie Led to Prostitute's Disclosures
'Mayflower Madam' Gave Gobie Idea
By Bill Dedman
Washington Post Staff Writer
August 27, 1989
Prostitute and pimp Stephen L. Gobie settled in with his "girls" in his Georgetown town house one evening in late 1987 to watch "The Mayflower Madam" on television. As Candice Bergen portrayed upscale madam Sydney Biddle Barrows, Gobie's companions had an idea.
"The girls turned to me and said, 'You're just like her,' " Gobie recalled in an interview yesterday. "That's when I realized that I was in the middle of a developing story that could be worth something someday. I told them, 'One day, don't be surprised if you see me on TV.' "
Gobie's dream has come true. His accusation that Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) knew that Gobie had operated a prostitution service out of Frank's Capitol Hill apartment became national news after it was first reported Friday by the Washington Times.

There is no way [emphasis added] any representative would risk his career to cover for a pedophile.
Dear Lois,
When (Okay, If) it becomes clear that Hastert et al. were complicit in this coverup, will you amend your statement in the interest of moral/intellectual/ethical integrity?
Regards,
Ellsworth

I see the swine are at it again. Rather than be relieved that Foley unconditionally resigned, the BDS crowd is looking to indict every elected Republican. If you're a democrat and you do a page, you get re-elected four or five more times. Just ask Gerry Studds, (D) Massachusetts. Oh, I forgot, that ONLY applies to members of the Jackass party. Dan Crane got no such reprieve, but then, he was a Republican.

The asshole has resigned, the White House ordered an investigation and Dems would be wise to let this go otherwise they will be putting a bad face on the image of gay behavior. In a time of trying to gain acceptance gays don't need BoyToy activity splashed across the tv screen scrutinized by every expert who knows everything about assholes.
It's one thing to play up heterosexual pedophilia but in order for the Dems to get Republicans they are going to end up screwing active members of their base.

Do we associate the entire democrat party with being racists because they have a former KKK klegal(sp) in their ranks?
Do we paint them all as guilty of bribes and such, because one of theirs have been caught red handed and on tape bribing officials?
- U.S. Rep. William Jefferson (D-La.) is under criminal investigation by the U.S. Justice Department for possible bribery in exchange for promoting business deals in Africa
- Federal prosecutors alleged in court documents that Ernest Newton, a former state Democrat Connecticut senator worked with a reputed mobster and his associate to try to stop police raids on businesses and advance their business interests
- Clarence Norman Jr., the longtime powerbroker of Brooklyn NY Democrats was found guilty of intentionally soliciting illegal campaign contributions.
- West Virginia.Logan County Clerk Glen Dale "Hound Dog" Adkins admitted to selling his vote for $500 in the 1996 Democratic Party primary, while Perry French Harvey Jr. pleaded guilty to conspiring to bribe voters in last year's Democratic contest
- Former Democat Gov. Donald Siegelman of Alabama was charged in a "widespread racketeering conspiracy" that includes accusations he took a bribe from former hospital executive Richard Scrushy for a key state appointment.

Democrats should not be painting with a wide brush, especially since they are not alone in having corruption in their ranks also...
An article by a former Democrat, and a VERY good read:
"PC attitudes were heavily criticized, and even mocked, by mainstream thinkers all around the country, liberal and conservative. And yet, in 1992 America elected into power an administration that in many ways adhered to the PC worldview, thus beginning a process of "change" unforeseen not only by most Americans, but by most Democrats as well. I have known for a long time that there were serious problems in my party, but I didn't fully grasp the political nature of those problems. Sometimes it takes a simple, symbolic moment to cause an epiphany -- to bring clarity. That happened to me this past May.
My awakening
When I read about people spitting on the Honor Guard at the New York State Democratic Convention May 16, I started to understand what has happened to my party over the last few years. I still can't get over the fact that Democrats attending a formal convention would so insult the American flag, but it happened. As an Honor Guard of Albany police officers entered the convention hall - with band playing and lights shining - they were spit on and called "Nazis" by a number of people on the delegate floor. On top of that, no Democrat nearby stopped the "spitters," or even reported them. And the Democratic leadership expressed no public outrage.
I was so outraged at my party's lack of outrage that I started a reward fund to find the "spitters." But I soon realized that I needed to address the larger issue of what I had come to understand. I direct this commentary to the mainstream elected officials of my party - the "adults" as the media often calls them. Whether you are still in office or retired, you can have a profound effect in waking up the party and the public. I see clearly now that the path the party is taking will eventually lead to its destruction and to the destruction of liberty in America. It is practically mathematical. And it won't take very long in years if nothing is done to stop it.
I have been a Democrat all my life. I grew up in New York City in a staunchly Democratic middle class family. Although private-school educated (I had financial assistance thanks to Trinity School), my father was a union man, a musician with the Metropolitan Opera. My parents and stepparents were all "Roosevelt Democrats." As a young English teacher in Montclair, New Jersey, during the Richard Nixon Watergate scandal, I drove around with a bumper sticker saying, "Don't Blame Me I Voted for McGovern." I was proud to be on the side of "right" as I saw it. I was proud to stand against corruption and the abuse of power.
Now, 25 years later, I am ashamed to be a Democrat. More than that, I have come to fear my own party. Hatred and corruption - the roots of fascism - are on the march in America as they have never been before, and leading this march is the Democratic Party. Increasingly, mainstream Democrats are uncomfortable with what we see in our party. We may not have a real name for it, but we know it is dangerous. "

http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=16391
The thing is, Republicans when caught in the wrong (at least from what I have seen), have resigned. Contrast that to Democrats that even when faced with charges and indictments, they refuse to give up their "power", and you need a crowbar to remove their butts from their chairs and get them out of office, dragging them kicking and screaming to be throw into jail or the street...
Ok, maybe that is a bit much, but you get the contrast between how republicans handle corruption in their party and democrats handle it in theirs....

From the above article I posted from, I read more was floored, that I never heard about this! This is the extent of how far Democrats are willing to go in their "war" on republicans, and their hatred of republicans:
"On Sunday, June 18, the headline of the Washington Post read, "Political Dirty Tricks Alleged in Alabama Trial," but the story revealed something far more serious than "dirty tricks." A Democrat lawyer and a private investigator are now being tried for attempting to defeat a Republican candidate in 1998 by bribing a prostitute to accuse the Republican of raping her. The prostitute recanted and turned witness against the two "Democrats."
The Republican, Lt. Gov. Steve Windom, was elected when the prostitute confessed, but let's consider what his "political opponents" were willing to do to him. This wasn't political rumor mongering -- which is bad enough. These two men allegedly took direct action to destroy Windom's reputation in the community, shame him before his family, and basically ruin his life.
These two "Democrats" were apparently willing to destroy everything precious to a Republican man because he stood between their party and political power. It is the totalitarian choice. The question is, how deep does it go into the party and what motivates it? "
Shouldn't it be what is good for AMERICA and AMERICANS, not what is good for their party?
I think the author is correct when he states that majority of deomcrats are moving to the party first, and the ends justify the means, as long as the party comes first...
"Loyalty to the party is everything because the party is the country. "
I just got a chill....

Bottom line on Foley: big f***ing deal!
Posted by: Gormless Norman | Sunday, October 01, 2006 at 11:52 PM
Syn:The White House has not ordered an investigation. It is leaving it up to the House to investigate. This according to Dan Bartlet White House Council, who appeared on Stephanopoulos' show this AM.
Annoying Mike: No one is indicting EVERY Republican. People are justifiably calling for an investigation of FOUR Republicans. Hastert, Boehner, Shimkus, and Reynolds must be investigated. What did they know? When did they know it and what did they do about it? If there is any evidence of a cover up, all four should be called upon to step down for putting party loyalty above the protection of children.
Syn: What the hell are you talking about? Pedophilia is pedophilia. I don't care if it's priests molesting little boys, male school teachers molesting little girls, female teachers molesting young boys or Congressmen cyber sexing young high school boys. Gay men are as disgusted by pedophelia as suburban moms are. Pedophilia is about power and control over innocent children who are unable to protect themselves. It is not about sexual orientation.
Sanity: Great job building up your straw man and then knocking him down. Once again no one has labeled all Republicans pedophiles. People are calling to question what FOUR republicans did after learning of the allegations. That's all. You can cool your jets now.
I must say that I am already enjoying the artful spin the Republicans are putting on this Foley mess. It will be wonderful to see the Republican game rules employed during the Lewinsky affair turned on them.
Let the karma unfold!
Posted by: duncan | Monday, October 02, 2006 at 10:44 AM
duncan, there is no strawman as you so put it. Whole parties have been painted by the actions of one or two before.
What I pointed out is there is corruption from individuals from each side, and yet I can BET you that the democrats will be running on corruption of the republicans.
Now, as I have shown there is corruption of people including those on the democrats side, though I am sure they are wanting to sweep it under the rug and forget about it. While republicans have either resigned, or republicans would be the first to call for an investigation of their own party member, as is the case here also.
What I would be interested in finding out, is that these emails are not new, from what I heard they are at least a couple of years old...who held on to them all this time and who is "leaked" them out.
I am in no way wanting foley "covered" in this, if he broke the law, he should be punished. If he hadn't resigned, he would have been called to by others. There is no room as a representative of the people who acts like that.
But there are unanswered questions I think we should know about.
Posted by: sanity | Monday, October 02, 2006 at 12:01 PM
oh, almost missed you last comment of nonsense...
artful spin?
calling for an investigation is an artful spin?
I have not heard of anyone excusing foleys actions, so where are you getting your misinformation?
he has resigned.
there is an investigation ongoing.
care to show the artful spin you run on about?
Posted by: sanity | Monday, October 02, 2006 at 12:05 PM
Sanity,
Why was Tom Reynolds consulted on this issue and not the Democrat, Kildee who has served on the page committee for years? Could it have had something to do with the fact that Reynolds serves on the Republican re-election committee? The only possible explanation for Reynolds' involvement was damage control.
Now we hear that Hastert has admitted he knew about Foley months ago. This after a weekend of denials.
You have listed a litany of scandals on the other side. This thread is about the Foley scandal. Let's stick to that issue shall we? So same questions. Who knew? When did they know it? What did they do to correct the problem?
We have something in common. We both want to know why these emails were held onto for so long. We also want to know why they weren't brought to light sooner.
Excusing a wrong by saying the other side is wrong too, is no excuse at all.

Norman: When you say BFD, what you're basically saying is: "Internet sex predators are writing our laws? Let's let bygones be bygones"
