BEWARE: UN Wants Internet Control
Unease? Color me uneasy at the thought of 1000 "experts." And positively nervous at a UN sponsored anything.
Unease over US role on net control Australian IT
MORE than 1000 internet experts have gathered in Athens for the first UN-sponsored internet governance forum, amid grumbling over the dominant position of the US.
Grumbling? I bet..............hrumph!
Countries such as Iran and China objected to having the internet's technical foundations managed by California's Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, a non-profit organisation under tender from the US Department of Commerce.
Iran and China? Ah yes, mecca to freedom loving peoples everywhere. /
The US has resisted attempts to modify the existing framework, warning that change could give more power to regimes that do not allow freedom of speech.
This is a renewed effort of a failed attempt last year to silence truth tellers, wrestle control of the
internet away from a free speech America (where there is no control, thank Gd) and shut down the last vestige of free,
unfettered opinion worldwide. The internet is the worst thing that ever happened
to despots and dictators everywhere.
Oh and btw, WTF does the UN have to do with it? The internet is America's invention. We shared it with the rest of the world. Play nice killers.

UPDATE: First, kill all the bloggers.
Amnesty To Press UN On Blogger Rights WebProNews
A Chinese proposal to force bloggers to register with the government using their real names will be on the minds of United Nations delegates as they discuss various online issues at the Internet Governance Forum to be held in Athens.
I am sure Google has already handed over to China the names of blogspot bloggers.

Turning over control of the 'net to the UN would be criminal...in other words, criminals would be running it.

Excuse me, but the internet was invented in the United States not the United Nations. Therefore, internet control will remain in the U.S.

People around the world "grumbling" about yet another American invention they like. Hmm. Doesn't seem to stop them from flying in airplanes or watching television or talking on the telephone or using microwaves or playing cds or any of the millions of other American inventions that make their sorry lives worth living. Maybe if some of these asshats would spend more time inventing stuff instead of burning it, they'd move into the 21st century. And for most, it would be a LONNNNNNG and dusty trup.

I wouldn't trust the U.N. to run a freaking grocery store.

Do you really want to the UN toying with algore's invention?
Your second paragraph reeks of anti Semitism. Go away!

Very eloquent. But I'm afraid I lost the thrust of your argument somewhere in the middle.

Christ, you're an idiot, Pammy. You somehow manage to give Jews and Americans a bad name.
Don't you think it might be in the best interest of public discourse for you to get a real job?

I truly wish the U.S. of A. would get out of the UN and throw that corrupt organization out of New York. Let all the Third Worlders therin go back to their own primitive lands and ways.
If things continue as they are, I have no doubt that eventually the Internet will be tightly regulated and taxed etc. Democrats would love to do that now. Just as Clinton (Billy boy) would have loved to have shut conservative talk radio down. Remember his BS about REQUIRING equal time (referring to Rush).

I think the UN is on to something here! Why not start with regulating some great invention from our dear friends the Palestinians. [suicide bombers?] We'll see how they do with that first.
We can see that the great egalitarians like Iran and China have nothing but the best intentions in mind. The idea of repressing their populations and attempting to eliminate any dissent is the furthest thing from their minds.

Mr. Bones: I hear 7-11 is hiring. Check them out. Give YOU something to do in the afternoons too.

Oh btw, Pamela, what modern convenience *didn't* Westerners invent? We build it and the Third Worlders benefit from it. They want what we have. They are not capable of building it for themselves.
Name ONE non-Western civilization any of us would prefer to live in. Just one. If we think the Muslim practises are horrendous (and they are) they ain't nothin' compared to Africa where some tribes literally sew women up before their men leave on hunts.

Here's a little example from Africa as reported by the BBC:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/1703595.stm
and this is only what the extreme leftist BBC will report on. One can imagine what they won't tell.

mrboners - WTF are you? The proprietor here has one of the best blogs in the country with 1,998,513 readers and counting...., how many you got? She has a talk show, she VLOGs, she gets exclusive coverage of events, she went to the damn WAR FRONT! She takes great photos at events, the photos ALONE are more than you will ever do! And she's highly regarded by some of the biggest names in politics and reporting around the world.
Not only does she have a real job, she is making a difference.
She is driven to warn America about the Jihad against us.
She's even saving your ungrateful behind. You would be well-served to read, learn, and appreciate what she's doing. Instead of insulting her just because you can.
clyde was right, think about it.

Gene Wilder to Cleavon Little in Blazing Saddles:
"Yeah, they're the real salt of the earth. You know...morons."
Glad to see you're from Red Rock, pal.
I think you already have an opinion regarding Jews and Americans.
And Pam has a real job.
Now, as to the whole post, I don't believe there will be any success regarding the U.N.'s attempt--it's been tried before and will no doubt at some future time; the internet is a powerful commercial engine and will continue to evolve.
One very minor clarification. CD tech was developed in the very early '80s jointly by Phillips (Netherlands) and Sony.

BTW.
I had addressed the above to someone above; until I removed the 'salutation', I repeatedly received a 'we believe this is spam' message.
Just so there's no confusion about to whom the Red Rock reference referred. :>)

And it just happened again(:>(

I can't even refer to the demon lord's name!!!
Posted by: turn | Monday, October 30, 2006 at 05:12 PM
The UN has rounded up 1000 internet experts, to figure out how to control the internet?? hahahhahahaha.
How was this panel picked? What was the criteria? Someone who sends SPAM?? or maybe, someone who reads SPAM? One 'expert' was quoted, "I answered my manhood Spam and now my cock is 18 inches long!"
Yeah, they're on the panel...

Wait a second Didn't Al Gore invent the internet?
Posted by: Yidwithlid | Monday, October 30, 2006 at 05:45 PM
Listen:
This internet threat is crap and will remain so.
If you want to worry about something the U.N. is doing/done, then worry about the UNIPCC (United Nations International Panel on Climate Control) and Kyoto. 800+ 'scientists', most of whom have no background in climatology but extensive backgrounds in sociology and economics have convinced entire nations that this natural phenomenon is man-made and that the only hope for survival is to turn away from the engines of our economy. It is a very clever wealth redistribution system that will only punish the industrious and the productive. Ooops--exceptions for China and India.
This is yet another stump that Algore has climbed onto to shout his filthy lies.
See book just released 'Unstoppable Global Warming' by renowned climate expert, S. Fred Singer.
Pam, the authors are on a promotional tour and I feel certain you can get an interview.

great point turn - that's another major fraud.... and some people are buying it... just like internet SPAM
Posted by: Richard Davis | Monday, October 30, 2006 at 07:22 PM
The "internet" is safe as long as the US administration holds out.
If the Chinese, third world thugs, and EUrocrat stooges try to create a faux-internet, people will just ignore it and find ways around it ... Fidonet ( with its internet gateways ) is still around in Russia ... the Russian State has absolutely no control over it.
