RINO Senator Lincoln Chafee is still obstructing the Bolton nomination.
Chafee is basically telling the administration that he believes the United States -- and Bolton for that matter -- is simply too cozy with Israel!
In a letter to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Chafee wrote that the Bush "road map" for peace in the Middle East:"...states clearly that Israel will freeze all settlement activity. Yet, just this week, it is reported that 690 homes will be built in West Bank settlements of Maale Adumim and Betar Illit. While the official US policy has been against settlement activity, no credible observer could think that the US could not do more to stop these new actions."
In the concluding paragraph of this extortion letter, Chafee told Secretary Rice:
"It is my hope that answers will be forthcoming about our policy toward the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and the Committee can reconvene to debate Ambassador Bolton's nomination."
In other words: "If you don't do things my way, Bolton goes down. Period... End of discussion."
Can you believe it?
Chafee's actions are nothing short of a betrayal and lest you think "betrayal" is to harsh of a word, consider what columnist Robert Novak reported:
"Senate Republican Whip Mitch McConnell sat down Tuesday for a heart-to-heart talk with Chafee, pleading with him to permit Bolton's nomination to reach the Senate floor..."
"The president's political team had gone all out for Chafee, who was fighting for his political life in the Sept. 12 Rhode Island Republican primary."
In other words... you can "plead" with RINOs... you can come to their aid in their hours of need... but being a RINO means never having to say "I won't betray you!"
Tell them that Hugo Chavez and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Kofi Annan DON'T choose our U.N. Ambassadors!
