UK: PLOT TO BLOW UP PLANES FOILED

All airports have been put under the restrictions

A terrorist plot to blow up planes in mid-flight from the UK to the US has been disrupted, Scotland Yard has said.

Passengers will not be allowed to take any hand luggage on to any flights in the UK, the department said.

Only the barest essentials - including passports and wallets - will be allowed to be carried on board in transparent plastic bags.

A Sky News excerpt has new details –

Sky News has been told the plan was to blow up around a dozen planes over UK and US cities. Police are said to have arrested 20 people in London - the culmination of a major covert counter-terrorist operation lasting several months.

….. Sky News’ Crime Correspondent Martin Brunt said he understood the threat was imminent and those arrested were mainly young, British-born Asian men.

He said the alleged plan involved people boarding flights and detonating explosives on planes over UK and US cities.

Immediate reax — British-born men from what part of “Asia”?

-- The U.S. has raised its threat warning to the highest level for commercial flights from Britain to the United States in response to a terror plot disrupted in London. According to The Associated Press, the terrorists had targeted United, American and Continental airlines, two U.S. counterterrorism officials said.

-- Some of the flights involved in the plot to blow up trans-Atlantic planes in mid-air would have been going from the United Kingdom to New York, Washington, D.C., and California, a U.S. government official said.

My law enforcement sources say that the 21 homegrown British Muslim plotters were working for Islamic Jihad, a component of the Al-Qaeda network. Al Qaeda deputy Ayman Al-Zawahiri was the chief of Egyptian Islamic Jihad before he got together with Bin Laden.

So were the boys from Dearbornistan plotting the same thing with their passenger lists and airport security checkpoint info? And with their cellphone chips? Those are both elements involved in the British plots. And whether or not they were part of an orchestrated campaign with the Brit plotters, they were involved in something very nefarious. ;

UPDATE: Today's statement from the mouthpiece of Islamic terrorists here in America;

"The American Muslim community supports efforts to ensure the safety and security of the traveling public," said CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad. "We once again urge law enforcement authorities and elected officials to caution against stereotyping entire religious or ethnic groups based on the alleged actions of individuals."

Sweet... You know, I want to cheer that the Americans prevented this catastrophe. But I want to cry that everyone seems to make it hard to do anything to stop these monsters.

Absolutely. Why is it that it's only the US that's prepared to stand up to these murdering (and raping) b*st*rds? I must admit I'd feel a lot safer if the US government tried a little harder to take over the world. OK, we might get a few more peope killed by dirty rotten terrorists but hey a few dead civilians ain't gonna hurt us is it? I mean, we've come through having thousands of innocent people been blown to pieces - haven't we? I'm sure we can afford to lose a few more thousand - at least - if it's in the furthering of the thing we call democracy. Actually in the UK they use the term Asians to mean mostly Pakistani and Indians. Here in the US we use the term Asians to mean Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese and so on.
