Condi in Wonderland

This is a colossal failure. A misjudgment of unparalleled proportion.

Are we fookin' nuts? Have you seen the package that the West offered the tyrannical, violent Islamic Despot? Are we insane? It is sick.
In looking at this package, Condi Rice makes Colin Powell look like George Patton.

Condi what have you wrought?

She has been an abject failure. And even though I respect President Bush standing by his team - no matter how green,  at what cost? While the world goes to hell in hand basket, little Condi in Wonderland is on the job training. While she learns that the world is full of shit and internationalism is another word for collectivism, socialism and redistribution of America's wealth , she is inadvertantly aidiing in the coming of the caliphate. I don't think fashion girl would enjoy the chador.Yes, she is book smart, but she is not street smart.

WESTERN INCENTIVES TO IRAN RELEASED

UNITED NATIONS (AP) - The world powers are prepared to provide Iran with advanced technology and possibly even nuclear research reactors if it agrees to suspend uranium enrichment under a package of incentives revealed in full for the first time Thursday.

The package - put together by the United States, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany - was given to the Iranians on June 6 and some details were leaked at the time.

But the full proposal showed a broader range of economic, political and energy incentives. They include promoting Tehran's membership in the World Trade Organization, and the possible lifting of U.S. and European restrictions on the export of civilian aircraft and telecommunications equipment.

Under the incentives, the six powers are prepared to help Iran build state-of-the-art light water nuclear power reactors and to give legally binding guarantees that nuclear fuel will be provided for these civilian reactors meant to produce energy.

This is unbelievable. This evil despot who is behind all the terror in the Middle East, who is rallying all Muslim nations to join to annihilate Israel, who has threatened all western nations is rewarded so richly, it is no wonder Ahmadinnerjacket speaks to us dripping with contempt. Iran promises Israel with a "fierce response" if it brings the war to Hezbollah's teet, Syria.  Iran is demanding a regional war, no matter how fast Condi dances diplomatically. He's won!

At the end of the day, they will get all this wondrous technology and build their bomb. You know it and I know it. This is an embarrassment.

Where are the sticks?

Ahmadinejad refusing this offer can only be compared to Yasser Arafat refusing Jerusalem.

Wow, this is a very well-written excoriation of Rice. I must admit, I am jealous. Wish I would have written that.

I'm going to bet that any reactors we give them won't be breeder capable; meaning they couldn't be used for enrichment. You're right though, we need a few sticks too; preferably with nails sticking out.

It worked out so well to give nuclear reactors to North Korea, why not do it here, too?

Good grief. Fool me once, shame on you, but fool me TWICE...

That's ok, Atlas. The way things are going, the Israeli's are probably going to take out Iran's above ground nuke facilities in a month or so.

Shema Israel!

Look at it this way. They will, of course, turn down our offer - because they want nukes. The whole world can hardly deny we've been as accommodating as possible, and still been refused.

When we/Israel take out their nuclear program, what can the world actually say? We should have let an enemy who has attacked us in violation of international law acquire the nuclear weapons they have foresworn in violation of agreements they signed?

I'd say their refusal will be justification enough to destroy their nuclear program. Unless Israel beats us to it, of course. Were I President Bush, I'd offer them billions in aid to do the deed. Since Israel is a pariah anyway, why not do the world another favor like they did at Osirak?

Atlas,

I agree with Mark D. We could offer them the world, it wouldn't matter. All they want is nukes. They're about to demonstrate that to the world.

Hi Super Babe,

Me thinks the fix is in!

Sharon's pullout of Gaza was done knowing full well Hamas couldn't resist the temptation. All they know is war. They don't know how to govern and collect the trash.

Isreal pulls out of Lebanon with a tacit agreement with Syria to moderate Hezbollah.

Syria misteps and gets thrown out of Lebanon.

Hamas and Hezbollah can't control themselves and cross Israel borders.

Now Israel has wink/nod from everyone involved to take out Hezbollah and Hamas.

A similar thing is happening with President Mad and the Mad Mullahs. They taken the bait hookline and sinker. It was never thought they would take the deal that would be a rational act.

President MAD will get his next!

More. Just saw this at Dr. Sanity who has the same opinion.

First off,

* Don't Panic! *

This is a long-running chess match, on a national scale. Give George W time and let the current game play out. He has proven time and again he is an expert chess player and has good advisers, including Dr. Rice.

This is an opening move, in no small part to defang the anti-war left, pin down the drive-by media, and limit the ability of Europe to cut and run when things get hot. The Mullahs will never take the offer - they think we are weak and unable to respond. They'll spit on it and proceed with developing their nukes. Their goal is armageddon and world domination, not peace or salvation.

It will not be easy, but the die was cast back in 1979 when a particularly weak and foolish US president allowed the Shah of Iran to be overthrown by a radical mullah who had been hiding in (surprise!) France and subsequently radicalized the islamic world.

This is a war that has been underway for thirty years. The current outbreak is simply the latest battle. Terrorist attacks are merely skirmishes in that war, however terrible they may be.

For conservatives, job #1 is keeping our cool and not behaving like the emotionally unbalanced fools, useful idiots, and jack-asses that exemplify the antiwar Left and make them pawns for the other side. We aren't necessarily smarter than they are, but if we can at least keep our heads in a fight, we have a powerful advantage.

Look for the long game - the one that ends with Iran's radical government smashed, Syria demolished as a power in the region, terrorists scattered or killed, and Islam at last forced to reconcile with the 21st century.

Focus on the goal and figure out how we get there. We will all play a part, whether on the front lines, at the ballot box, or at work paying taxes, providing for our families, and fueling the booming US economy.

Atlas is the sentinel at the gate. Her duty is to raise the alarm when she sees the barbarians coming. (and some of them are inside the walls of the fortress!)

She's going to be busy.

I read that she also just approved an additional 50 million dollars handgrenade...er...humanitarian aid for the Palis due to the hardships they are currently enduring.

Breeder be damned. The technology is almost identical in all reactors. During a nuclear reaction three things happen:

1)Energy is released in the form of heat.
2)Gammas are released that continue the reaction.
3)Particulate daughters are formed that can be captured (things like plutonium).

Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free? Ahmadmen-jihad would be stupid to turn this down and I don't think he will. I'm not sure what the purpose of this offer was, but it is a bluff, then we better hope that he doesn't have a better hand.

I have been highly critical of Condi, as has Hugh Fitzgerald and others, and am not surprised. I knew she was a basketcase out of touch with reality and the big picture - it is inconceivable for her to believe Islam 'really' condones terror. I do not understand how anyone in her position can be so ignorant. What books has she read on Islam? Is Armstrong and Esposito as risque she dare to tread? Bolton, we need a clone as Sec. of State. Amen Sister! Dump Clueless Condi, It's not White Rice, it's Dhimmi Rice!!

There are 3 sides in this game: U.S., U.N., and Iran. Each has different objectives.

The U.S. wants to prove to the U.N. that Iran is making nuclear weapons. Once it does this it will be able to apply the only kind of force that can persuade the Iranians to change their policy. The trick is that it can't get the incontrovertible proof—the kind that would stand up in court—that the U.N. wants. Physical proof being absent, the best the U.S. can do is make repeated lavish offers of everything but the ingredients for a bomb until the U.N. has to admit that there can be no other explanation for Iranian behavior. NO ONE at this stage expects these offers to be accepted.

Certain member states of the U.N. want to make money trading with Iran. They also want to extend their political power in the region to offset the sudden and alarmingly unopposed U.S. influence, which they can do by snuggling up to Iran. The trick is that they can't do this if they admit that Iran is making nukes. Their strategy is accordingly to be deliberately obtuse out of a pretended interest in caution and peace. Victory for them means denying the existence an Iranian nuclear weapons program until they successfully test a bomb. Then they'll be too dangerous to attack, and maybe they'll remember gratefully the interference that Certain Countries ran on their behalf.

Iran wants nuclear weapons to give them leverage against the U.S. If they had a bomb, the U.S. certainly wouldn't invade with a large force (forget regime change) and probably wouldn't launch any but the briefest air strikes. This would leave them free to indulge in all sorts of low-level nastiness while still trading with Certain Countries who would happily buy their oil while deploring their behavior. The trick is simply to buy enough time to build a bomb by persuading the U.N. to continue negotiations. And of course the U.N. is eager to accept any plausible excuse to do this.

If the U.S. continues to play by these rules, I think they are going to lose. There are simply too many people at the bargaining table who want them to, and judging by today's proposal the U.S. is at the stage of offering deals that would prompt a revolt in Congress if they were ever accepted. A shift in the rules could change this, and current events provide the opportunity. A strike against North Korean missile sites would be even more justified than the present campaign against Iran and would dispel this illusion that mere possession of nukes provides any nutcase regime with a bulletproof vest.

If this is really a serious war on terror, all of the players and their behaviors have converged. Some real action would have been taken.

Reactors.... jihad.... WMD... all these debates are fine, but someone must decide, like at Gettysburg, is it time to fight?

This fight can be delayed to another day. On that day, Iran may have the bomb. On that day, NK may be involved. On that day India and Pakistan may be going at it too.

All we have heard out of the admin is that Iran and Syria have been either coming across the Iraq border, let others pass through the borders or are supplying weapons to those who are figthting against the US.

We were also told that these types of actions would be considered an act of war against the US. Yeah, right.

A significant number of people outside the administration and not Chalibi, 'claim' that Iraq WMD were shipped to the Bakka Valley (beside being the Terrorists'R'Us of the region). If people are serious about the war on terror, then Bakka sounds like a priority target.

If it is time to fight, fight. Don't spend 6 months talking about it while the other side deploys manpower, moves weapons, and sperads propoganda.

If it is not time to fight, stand down and go back to the daily business.

But, fighting or delaying has consequences. Condi better open here eyes before she makes a decision.

But, we know it will not be time to fight in the next day or so. Bush and Rice are out of the country.

dlm3 gives us a clear, long term assessment. Well done.

I personally think that Israel and the US are in this together and we are ALONE. No one else on this planet will help us here folks. At least not in any kind of material way.

We remain isolated and that isolation continues to grow.. Unfortunatly, I do not see any way to stem this tide. Even proof positive of nukes in Iran, or Iran and Syria's 'outing' of their direct involvement with Lebanon and Hezbollah will do NOTHING to turn the opinion of the Euros or anyone else, especially not the left in this country who already believe the BS that Israel and the US are the 'true' terrorists.

The only true friend and ally that we have in this global war against Islam IS the Israelis.. Period. We must do everything we can to help and support those on the front lines..

The fuse has been lit, it's up to THIS generation of Isralis and Americans to finally put a halt to Islam's dream of global conquest and domination.

I am expecting to wake up every morning and hear that Iran has finally blocked the Straight of Hormuz. At that point, the gloves WILL come off and this will be a truly open and bitter world war.

It's going to get MUCH worse before it gets better.

The big question in my mind is this, is there ANYBODY currently alive who is capable of rallying the west and particularly the US of A to the cause? Someone who has the clear vision and oratory skills to be able to unite people and change minds? Someone who can rise above the fray and speak to the 'people' in plain, clear language in the manner of a Winston Churchill?

Ronnie Reagan where are ya when we need ya baby?

Sorry about the rant here.

Pamela,

This is the long war of civilization! Sides are being drawn and quartered. Count-my-lucky-charms Dinner-jacket is the puppetmaster who cannot and so will not accept the West's offer, and this rejection will force this divisional stand. The next question is who in Europe/ Asia will rise with freedom against Islamofascism or be suckered in by it? Who's strings supposedly held now by puppetmaster Dinner-jacket will be cut free? Iraq? Germany? Russia? Egypt? China?

God knows!

DLM3 says:
"First off,

* Don't Panic! *"

Agreed.

Dr. Rice is neither stupid nor naive. It's the job of State to propose diplomatic solutions. I believe the admin is fully aware that we are in the early years of the war for civilization. There will be death and destruction sufficient to make last century's conflicts seem minor.

Some corrections.

Sean S.
Light water reactors are not capable of enriching uranium or creating plutonium, but they are capable of producing lighter radioactive daughters for a dirty bomb. Also, gamma rays have nothing to do with sustaining a chain reaction--it's neutrons that serve that function.

ShannonKW writes:"There are 3 sides in this game: U.S., U.N., and Iran. Each has different objectives."

I believe the 3 sides in this are US, China and Russia. Iran, even a nuclear Iran, can cause no more than serious mischief--they couldn't beat Iraq. Serious mischief is what they're doing now in conjunction with Syria by sponsoring Hamas and Hizballah.

This country is so damn split between those that understand and those who won't that I don't see anyway we can get fully engaged in the war for civilization unless we are, G*d forbid, struck again.

DLM3

My thoughts exactly only expressed much butter.

Turn

I agree with this Country being split. But it doesn't have to be that way. I believe once the American people hear the truth they will come around.

The LL and MSM have lost it. They are so enraged with Bush Derangement Syndrome (BDS a la Dr. Sanity), they can't see they are being manipulated/exploited by the enemy in the war of information.

The body count in Iraq is out of context, proportion, and perspective because it is being sensationalized by the MSM. Why do you suppose we have all the bombings within in easy reach of the news cameras? A reliable source of RBT's is working on a comparative risk analysis to show a more broader perspective.

I agree there is a much bigger game is afoot. The LL and the MSM are being allowed to run with a long rope that is about to run out with a snap. The Plame/Wilson Affair is just one example:

Plaming Out: Joe Wilson Jumps the Shark

What we need now is to unite the American people and hold the LL and the MSM accountable. RBT believes the best way to do this is to expose the biased reporting on Iraq e.g., Bush Lied. People Died!

We in the Blogos have the power to bring this info directly to the American people that Saddam was up to his eyeballs in supporting/facilitating/coordinating with Islamofascists whether they be Sunni or Shi'ia whenever it was in his own self-interest.

This is why RBT has been so supportive of the efforts of Ray Robison and Mark Eichenlaub and others who are in the process of translating/analyzing the Saddam Regime's docs. President MAD and Saddam are no different than Hitler and the Nazis. They are meticulous records keepers of their attrocities and programs. I guess it goes with their form of megalomania.

Rocketsbrain,
Thanks for the mention of R.O.T.

Ayn Rand at 100: "Yours is the Glory"

  • Aynrandstamp_1

  • Speaking to the unnamed, unchampioned, beating heart of her new land, Ayn was to say: 'Yours is the glory.'"
A man whose ability and independence leads others to reject him, but who perseveres nevertheless to achieve his values. Man as an individual, as a creator. What's the most depraved type of human being? Not a sadist or a murderer or a sex maniac or a dictator; "The man without a purpose." Yet most people seem to go through their lives without a clearly defined purpose.

    All beautiful and splendid things,
Blue waves whitened on a cliff,
Soaring fires that sways and swing,
    And children's faces looking up,
    Holding wonder like a cup

    Life has Loveliness to sell,
Music like a curve of Gold,
Scent of pinetrees in the rain,
Eyes that love you, arms that hold,
And for your spirit's still delight,
Holy stars that star the night.

Spend all you have for loveliness,
    Buy it and never count the cost;

And for a breath of ecstasy
Give all you have been, or could be.
