BOMB TUNNEL, FLOOD CITY

The FBI has uncovered what officials consider a serious plot by jihadists to bomb the Holland Tunnel in hopes of causing a torrent of water to deluge lower Manhattan, the Daily News has learned.

The terrorists sought to drown the Financial District as New Orleans was by Hurricane Katrina, sources said. They also wanted to attack subways and other tunnels.

Counterterrorism officials are alarmed by the "lone wolf" terror plot because they allegedly got a pledge of financial and tactical support from Jordanian associates of top terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi before he was killed in Iraq, a counterterrorism source told The News.

The plan was to blow up the Holland Tunnel and flood lower Manhattan. Crippling the city and the US economy. And while it may not be feasible it gives a clear indication of how "big" the enemy is thinking. Strata is reporting that The New York Times hurt us, once again.

Times story may have disrupted and ongoing investigation and caused the premature round up of those involved with the Holland Tunnel plot.  An

UPDATE: It's funny (not), but when I worked for The New York Daily News a couple of life times ago, whenever I went to industry functions where the Times was in attendance, they were treated like gods. They would walk into the room expecting the sea to part, and invariably it did. They thought they pee-ed ambrosia. They were so condescending and holier than thou it was to vomit.
What a difference 10 years make. Today, I would be embarrassed to say I worked there. I would hang my head in shame. Just sayin.

One DOJ source indicated that this case initially took off from monitoring of chat rooms that had been identified as havens for some of the plotters (that monitoring was undertaken in part by the NSA, and some of the monitoring required FISA court filings, something the New York Times doesn't support, either).

But another DOJ source added something interesting to the mix: "If you go back and look at some of our more successful anti-terrorism cases, they have focused on taking down entire networks. How do we do that? From the inside, peeling off a lead actor, turning him and using him to keep the plot moving forward so we can trace everyone else, the money, the accounts, the weapons dealers, everyone. I'll just note that we weren't able to do that with this case and leave it at that. We could have, but we weren't able to. You'll have to do the math for the Times."

BTW: another DOJ source said that in the past year, counter-terrorism officials have noted a marked downturn in the use of cell phone and landline communications. There are a number of reasons for this, but they readily point to the N.Y. Times story on NSA overseas terror-call monitoring as one reason.

I am listening to the FBI press conference right now and not one of  those thumb sucking reporters asked if the New York Times compromised their investigation. A zillion questions about homeland security cuts (from 225 million to 125 million.)

Listening to this group of enforcement chiefs talk about how they worked to tandem to protect the American people makes me hold the New York Slime in greater contempt for turning  on our nation.

This was an ongoing investigation for a year but had to be cut short because it has been exposed too early.

The second speaker (Port Authority) is listing all the processes and methods they use to protect these travel and commuter lines.

3rd speaker (NYC Police): plot in the planning stage and nowhere near being operational (which means it had plenty of intel to provide for some time).

This was an example of good intelligence (yet possibly crippled by the NY Times). It was also a warning that NY remains a top target.

There was perhaps a Canadian connection and it seems it was the PATH train was the main target. This was not the date the authorities had planned to go public,  but their investigation has been compromised.

Remember what happened in Chicago in the early 1990's? I still have my t-shirt!

Driving a bridge piling into the base of the Chicago River during a bridge repair, broke into an old coal service tunnel that was used for fiber optics and other services. Everything from the PRU building, the Amoco building, Marshall Fields (mostly buildings South of Wacker Blvd.) and many more were flooded.

So ery many of these undergrounds in the cities are connected that flooding tunnels, sewers, lower parking garages and/or utilitiy/service tubes can cause real problems.

To answer your question; The left still has enough power in America to sway the outcome of events one way or the other. The left considers both the radical Islamofascists and normal Americans as equal enemies, and they can still effect outcome by running interference for the radicals. The left's main weapon in this part of the conflict is the MSM. The MSM can ignore the good done by Americans in the WOT, and hold the Islamofascists in esteem and honor for their brave stance against the American Imperialism(TM). And as the civilization tumbles downward, the left can continue to be relevant. Their other choice would be to join one of the sides in the WOT. They will do this only if they take the lead. With that in mind, their only hope is to weaken the normal American's efforts in the WOT enough that the left is elected to lead in this noble campaign. Islamofascism will never tolerate being lead by gays and lesbians. After all, in Islam, white males ARE top dogs.

Why aren't the reporters for The Daily News being denounced as traitors for leaking sensitive information about an ongoing FBI investigation? Why isn't Atlas calling for the reporters to be jailed, or worse?
