The first paragraph is old news. The U.S. knew for a long time that Arafat was behind the murders of Cleo Noel and Curtis Moore. As for the 2nd paragraph, both the Dulles brothers (one headed the CIA) were evil. the Dulles brother who was not head of the CIA, but, rather, the Sec. of State under the Eisenhower administration, bullied Israel into withdrawing from the Sinai and in doing so guaranteed the never ending war we have now. In addition, to working with the Nazis, Allen Dulles had the 'bright' idea of using the mafia to try to assasinate Castro (the mafia was smart enough to take the money and do nothing to Castro). Morality and effective policy was not the strong suit of either of the Dulles brothers.

Despite the above comment, the Arafat story is not old news. It had been rumored for some time that the US was aware through NSA intercepts that Arafat orchestrated the murder of these diplomats. The news is that these declassified DoS records provide the first documentary (to my knowledge) confirmation of the rumors. There is a difference between rumor and documented fact.

As for Allen Dulles, it should be obvious that intelligence collection involves recruitment of sources who frequently have unsavory backgrounds. They are the ones with access to valuable information. During WWII Allen Dulles established and ran the OSS Station in Berne, Switzerland. He recruited and successfully ran Nazi sources who provided information on the V1 and V2 rockets and the Messerschmitt 262 jet fighter. I’d say those were pretty considerable achievements for the cause of freedom. Since Underzog has attacked the memory of the late Allen Dulles, perhaps he’d like to post some of his own achievements in the cause of freedom to compare with those of Dulles.

This kind of work always involves apparent moral compromises. Anyone who lives in the US, especially in large urban areas, enjoys a measure of safety because police detectives and federal agents recruit sources from among the criminal class to inform on other criminals. These criminal sources frequently receive money and/or a reduction in sentence. Sometimes you have to buy a rat to catch a rat.

Michael Moore demonized our founding fathers for not fighting the Revolutionary and Civil Wars together. We probably wouldn't have won.

So here it's easy to condemn their decisions from this distance, not understanding the very real threats and situations they had to constantly assess.

I don't say that to justify either of these actions--many mistakes were made.

But in the big picture we support Israel and we stopped the Nazis. Though we did neither perfectly, I'm proud of both.
