Haditha:The Plot Thickens
Don't expect a full court press on this. Don't look for TIME magazine covers or big network pieces on the morning or evening news shows blaring these new details but one can hope it drives home the point to the American people. The left wants us to lose this war. Bloody fools. (hat tip Mike)
A Reuters eye-witness report from Haditha the 20th November 2005
No mention of a US Marine massacre - but a bloody firefight!
Note also that the article is based on a mixture of eye-witness account and info from the US forces - according to other sources on the net I've read there was an immediate retraction and correction regarding the fact that civilians had been killed by the IED.
However, the important point to note - the photographer notes "bodies had been left lying in the street for hours after the attack".
UPDATE: This blog is all Haditha, all the time. (hat tip Bruce)

Our Marines deserve the benefit of the doubt - they are our heroes and they are doing the most difficult job in the world with a lying Liberal Media, Liberal Anti-War Protestors (commies), Liberal teachers, Liberal entertainers and Liberal voters, who do all they can to help the terrorists defeat and kill our troops.
I can't wait until the Marines are exonerated of all charges.
The Marines don't kill anybody that don't deserve it (it's call collateral damage and they do all they can to avoid it, and they feel regret when it happens)
The Liberal Left is staggered today because the positive repurcussions of Zarqawi's death are just too many to mention.
- the Iraqi citizens will rise up and help us kill terrorists (they're dancing in the streets!)
- it takes the heat off Haditha and puts the military in a positive light (WHERE THEY BELONG!)
The left swears this was planned and timed by Carl Rove - bwahahahahahaha he planed it now to take Coulter off the front page bwahahaha and to take Haditha off the front page... Bwaaahahahaha
THANK YOU TROOPS!!!!!!
THANK YOU F-16 PILOTS!!!!!

You're citing a report from last November where the US military claimed there was a firefight. That's old news.
The report doesn't mention any other witnesses who say there was a firefight, nor does it cite the source who claims civilians were killed in the roadside bombing.
The report is also not supported by police reports filed at the time of the incident.
The bodies in the street are likely the bodies of civilians who had been pulled from a taxi and shot.
Yes, these marines are innocent until proven guilty. But let's not play with the facts to support what we'd like to believe.

abi,
The article is significant not so much because what it says, but because of what it does *not* say. Reuters writes a contemporanous report on the incident and makes no mention of bodies found inside homes. What, they hadn't been found yet?
Also, a cameraman is present...where are his pictures of the incident? What might they tell us? Why haven't they been published?

Those are good questions, but we can only speculate as to the answers. And that speculation can be crafted to support either side of the story.
