Culture of corruption, culture of corruption, culture of corruption.
Rangel and Castro (NY Post)
Rep. Charles Rangel has 'fessed up to having violated congressional ethics rules by taking his son to Cuba in 2002 on a trip paid for by Fidel Castro's government and New York grocery titan John Castimatidis.Under House rules, private sponsors can foot only the travel bill for a lawmaker and one relative, in this case Rangel's wife, Alma.
On the Castro dole, whoa. Imagine a Republican sleeping with a despot. So dirty it's disgusting. WTF is a New York Representative going to Cuba for? Isn't there an embargo? Rangel is particularly gross because he is always trotted out like some great elder statesman, when he is nothing short of a demagogue.
This is the same Charles Rangel that said of the president: "George Bush is our Bull Connor" here.
Mr. Rangel's metaphoric linkage of Mr. Bush to the late Theophilus "Bull" Connor - who in 1963 turned fire hoses and attack dogs on blacks, including Martin Luther King Jr., demonstrating in favor of equal rights here. Joining Rangel at the infamous gathering was none other than Hillary (shocka!)
This is the same Charles Rangel that tried, during the last Presidential election, to scare the American people into believing there was going to be draft - all the while it was he who clandestinely tried to introduce a bill to reinstate the draft here. It was he who belittled the 'success' of the Iraq vote here and said we "don't want our children to die for other people's freedom." How about dying for our freedom, Chuck? Oh and btw, he'a at it again. Castro puppet is trying to reinstate the draft, again, now - here.
And so invariably you get worldwide headlines like these;
Looks ominous doesn't it? And it doesn't look like it's coming from an extreme far left Rangel, the headline looks like it's the government, it's Bush, it's UNITED STATES. Rangel is a snake.
Cheney is on to him ......... said it straight back in October.
UPDATE: CULTURE OF CORRUPTION UPDATE;
Southpaw McKinney is cutting a deal on the cop beating and he has written a song about.
Check in the icebox for the William Jefferson corruption case.

See Rangel put in radical context also in David Horowitz's "America Under Siege" (Jan. 20, 2003) and Chapter 4 of Unholy Alliance, "The Left's Response." A major anti-Iraq-invastion rally at which he spoke also featured black Muslim speakers calling for revolution and leading the crowd in chanting "Allahu Akbar!"
First elected to Congress in 1970, Rangel has been a congressman almost as long as Castro has been commandante of the Cuban revolution.

Castimatidis, the owner of the Gristides chain, intends to run for Mayor. It looks like he is buying support the sleazy way.
Rangel's admiration for Castro goes back to his days working as a hotel clerk in Harlem during Castro's first visit to the UN. Apparently, most hotels refused Castro's business but he found one in Harlem ... Rangel's. Rangel spoke of Castro with admiration. Yes, imagine if a Republican spoke of Pinochet with admiration or Franco.

World champ of race-card poker Rangel's past and present antics shouldn't shock anyone. People get the government they deserve.
Very skilled at 'working' his congressional district, he'll enjoy reelection until he retires, at which point he'll probably get his son to successfully run.
Rangel's draft proposal was never serious. It was simply an effort to throw a wrench into the war plans by sowing seeds of fear of a possible draft with the hoped for effect of scaring kids and parents (didn't work).
He gets a disproportionate degree of attention--even the serious left doesn't regard him as a player.

Rangel is the epitome of the racist lying Liberal misleading his stupid constituents and hiding behind his military service.
He is the enemy of our Troops who are killing jihadists for us and he needs to clear his throat.
He should take a goodwill trip to Canada with his son, visit some mosques and let them "clear his throat"... ASSHAT.

Rangel's conduct is obscene, and arguably a security risk.
Franco and Pinocet were both responsible for some ugly deeds, but (unlike Fidel) neither of them destroyed a nation and spread subversion and terrorism around the world.

Yes, MarchH, Castro is much worse than Franco and Pinochet both for his people and the world but you realize how much flak a Republican would get for talking positively about Franco or Pinochet (both which ultimately enabled a peaceful transition to democracy?)
Vicious leftist dictators are treated as idealistic failures worthy of respect for their effort. But traditional autocratic rulers (not even totalitarian) are seen as total indicative of corruption and evil.
Rangel is a communist sympathizer. And in the congressional district which he represents (and where Bill Clinton has his office) his views are not anathema to the voters.

JasonP,
Perhaps it's time, on this and many other issues, to stop seeking accommodation and start taking flak. What other way is there to operate an authentic conservative movement? Wasn't Reagan the best recent example of the leader willing to question supposed "truths" in order to generate a new synthesis?
Please note that, as I expect that we are on the same side, my comment is not a rebuttal of your comment, rather it's a continuation of our dialogue.
