UPDATE: Swedish newspaper Expressen reports here from the funeral of a 17-year-old Lebanese boy who died during the attack on the Danish consulate in Beirut:
Family and friends were there - as well as many of the rioters who together with Khoudor [the dead boy] attacked the Danish consulate the day before yesterday. None of them want to appear with their last name, since they know that they are wanted by the Lebanese authorities.
'If the army only had
let us burn down the consulate without resistance this would not have had to
happen. We wanted to get to the consulate, but the army tried to stop us'

As for Denmark, I have enormous
respect for that country and their people. It's one of the great untold stories
of World War II: In 1943, in German-occupied Denmark, the Danish people find out
that all 7,500 Danish Jews
are about to be rounded up and deported to German concentration camps.
Danish citizens spontaneously make their own decision: it's not going to happen.
And it didn't. Risking their own lives, the Danes quickly rallied round to save
their fellow citizens, and almost all of the country's Jews were able to escape
the clutches of the Nazis and find refuge in neutral Sweden.More here
Protests over Mohammed cartoons intensify in Iran with the regime
halting trade with Denmark and demonstrators smashing the facade of Austria's embassy in Tehran. Iran has cut all trade ties with Denmark . Commerce Minister Masoud Mir-Kazemi announced a ban on Danish imports as well as any other business dealings with the country "until further notice," and added that Danish-registered ships entering Iranian ports would also be charged "very heavy" fees.
Crowds set fire to Danish and Norwegian missions in Damascus and storm the Danish Embassy in Beirut. Gunmen seize European offices in the Gaza Strip. Violent protests are spreading after European newspapers published cartoons depicting Muhammad that were considered blasphemous by many Muslims. Nordic embassies have been attacked in the Middle East and in Indonesia, and some protesters have reportedly died in Afghanistan. Chicago food distributor SUSPENDS all Business with Denmark-based Arla Foods iyad Brothers Importing, one of the largest distributors of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean food products, announced today it SUSPENDED all business with Denmark-based Arla Foods.
Nemer Ziyad, vice president of Ziyad Brothers Importing, said the decision is in response to the insulting and offensive caricatures of the Prophet Mohammed published by Denmark's leading newspaper, Jyllands-Posten, and the growing controversy.
"I am furious with what the newspaper did. I am disappointed with the hesitation of the Government of Denmark to speak out against this. I support free speech, but I believe that we must speak out when free speech crosses the line and incites hatred, as the publication of these extremely offensive cartoons have done," Ziyad said.
"We have enjoyed a relationship with Arla Foods, acting as the exclusive distributor of three of its most popular products here in the United States. We are encouraged that this issue may be resolved, but until it is properly resolved, we must take this action" Hat tip Tom via Rantburg

STOCKHOLM, Sweden (UPI) -- A Swedish publishing company Monday withdrew a religious textbook because it contains two images of the Muslim prophet Mohammed.
The book published by Liber was aimed at intermediate-level high school students, The Local reported.
The pictures were taken from a 14th century Persian manuscript and a 13th century Iraqi manuscript. The book was published in 1993.
The actions coincide with a series of demonstrations around the world protesting newspaper cartoons depicting Mohammed as a terrorist. A statement published by Liber on its Web site made no mention of the controversy. Hat tip: Night rider

Pamela - We should all get in the game. You´ve done more than enough by publishing the cartoons, now we need to get all newspapers and magazines, TV networks, etc. to publish the cartoons. As brave Scandanavians wore Stars of David when the Nazis demanded this of the Jews, so now we must stand together on this Islam idiocy.

Ok, as a person living in Denmark, where there is a HOT discussion about these drawings...
This site is stupid...
I'm not a muslim, and I'm not danish.
And the queen actually said "modspil" and it does not mean opposition,
she meant the danish government/people should meet them half way there...
She has been quoted wrongly!

denmark55,
From the article Pamela linked.
How do you get "meet them half way" out of that quote? Did it get that messed up in translation? I doubt it.

This type of behavior appears more racist than rseponsible. How does attacking American embassies resolve anything. America is not even involved in the cartoon issue. I think this just shows how irrational, and racist, these individuals are. There are many good Muslims, these ones perpetraing violence are not. I also wonder why more moderate Muslims have not condemmed the violence, I sure hope they don't condone this racist behavior.

What an idiot you are.

raymondb wrote, "I also wonder why more moderate Muslims have not condemmed the violence, I sure hope they don't condone this racist behavior."
You have to understand: there is NO SUCH THING AS moderate Muslims. Muslims are very, very reluctant to criticize their clergy or other Muslims. To do so would be to have your status as a Muslim removed by a fatwa.
Now, I have to applaud the European newspapers that did stand up for FREE SPEECH and what it entails... and I have to admit with a heavy heart that I am ASHAMED of our government for kowtowing to the Muslims.
Free speech is supposed to be a cornerstone of our Constitution. The present administration has pulled the rug out from under it.

Atlas says:
"Bush should speak out strongly against this repression of free speech."
Perhaps Bush is concerned, given the reliable leftist rejection of anything he says, that his vocal support of Denmark might actually backfire as an attempt to build support for Denmark. (at least in terms of support from the left) Two of the basic principles of liberal ideology are:
1. Hate George Bush and denounce anything he says.
2. Protect freedom of speech. (ESPECIALLY when it comes to freedom of the press)
Well, in the case of the cartoon jihad, these two principles run in direct contradiction to each other. It is time for the liberals to admit that they have been wrong.

The cartoons were published 6 months ago! Why did we not have all the violence and killings in Sep or Oct? Why in Feb 06? Do you think it may relate to the Muslims getting "their" A bomb?

How many Danish Muslims are working in companies that export products ? In a few weeks, it would be fun to blow up the Danish unemployment lines. Hundreds of innocent Danish Muslims would perish. Such a sinister twist of fate, eh ?
I really appreciate what's going on. The Muslim lunatics are showing the world how peaceful and tolerant they are. Also trustworthy, friendly, empathetic, considerate, civil, educated, kind.......

Here's one of the better examples of silliness in this cartoon mess:
From the BBC:
"Danish aid group has suspended operations in war-torn Chechnya after the Russian-backed administration there banned all Danish organisations.
The Danish Refugee Council, which provides food to tens of thousands in Chechnya, said it hoped the suspension would be temporary."
So Chechyna children will starve while kind-hearted Danish aid workers are threatened.

Well, I've been kind of busy lately but I'm trying to do my part. I picked up a case of Carlsberg from our local liquor store. I then emailed the Danish embassy to advise them that I plan to toast their Queen, armed forces in Iraq and cartoonists.
We're planing to serve the Danish beer with Aussie and Israeli wines (some great vintages are produced up on the Golan Heights). Perhaps we'll also serve Polish perogies to recognize their contribution to the Allied Forces.
