Sinatra.......Love That Man
Take a moment, sit down, dim the lights, pour yourself a tall one and wish Frank a happy
birthday.
I love the man, his music, his moxie and his passion. A favorite post of mine on Sinatra here.
Frank Sinatra's sings For Only the Lonely,Download 01_only_the_lonely.m4p, missing a man I think of as "my kinda man". They just don't make them like him anymore. And we are the losers for it.
Basically, I'm for anything that gets you through the night - be it prayer, tranquilizers or a bottle of Jack Daniels. Frank Sinatra
For me that drug is Sinatra, Happy Birthday Baby...............

Pamela,
Thanks for the Sinatra post and the Pal Joey shot. Great flick, great hat and great dames.
I'm spinning the "Francis Albert Sinatra and Antonio Carlos Jobim" CD as I do paperwork. In a contemplative mood I "dig" the little known "Watertown", but it could just as easily be "September of My Years", "No One Cares" or a dozen others. The man gave this country a great legacy.
Concerning Sinatra movies, it's interesting to note that he turned down staring roles in Carousel (as Billy Bigelow) and The Godfather (as Don Corleone). What would "Mr. S" have done with those roles?

He would have made them his own, as he did with everything (and everyone, channeling Ava)else.
After Sinatra and Jobim, segue into Gilberto and Getz. http://tinyurl.com/dqosz

Francis Albert has always been top of my chart, though as a teen I would never have admitted it.
Sinatra, Jobim, Gilberto, and Getz cannot be beat. They were and are the beat.

I must be listening to that thing since I was a teenager...seriously 20 years, backwards, forwards, inside and out. They record has been a constant companion during the good, the great, the bad, the passionate, the ugly, the heartbreaking.
YOU MUST GET IT! I INSIST
Cocovado, Desafinado, Ipanema
You been robbed of years of supreme pleasure

Atlas,
Great post.
I have a Frank story.
It is a second hand story, but super cool anyway.
I am in the restaurant business. A manager I work with grew up in the Palm Springs area in California, where you can drive down a street named Frank Sinatra Road. One of his first jobs as a manager was in that area.
One night it was getting close to closing, and a man walked in and asked him if he could close early, as Frank Sinatra would like a quiet drink. It was the off-season, and of course he said yes.
Frank came in wearing a very stylish robe and slippers, very Heff-style. He was not well at this point in his life, but didn't want to stay home.
Frank sat down at the bar and thanked him, and said 'he was a good kid' and ordered a Jack & Coke from the bartender.
He paid for his drink, dropped a $100 tip on the bartender, and left.
I can't tell you how jealous I was.
Will anyone ever be as cool as Frank Sinatra!?

That's right, baby. I've got you under my skin.

I liked the way Sinatra ALWAYS stood by his friends. Like the time Sammy Davis Jr. was refused admittance to a hotel because of his color and Sinatra threatened to tear the whole place down.
I miss Sinatra... I miss the Rat Pack. All those guys were cool.

And the way Sinatra smacked around dames? Classy, absolutely a class act. And the losing his casino shares because of his mob ties? Priceless. What a great guy.

Speaking of casinos, I've got a hundred bucks that say CFK supported clemency for Tookie. Compassion, understanding and forgiveness is granted only to those whose jackboots toe the line.
