Homicide Bomber Planned Attack at Children's Hannukah Party -

Suicide Bomber Planned Attack at Children's Hannukah Party -

Chanukah_1 The suicide bomber who killed an Israel Defense Forces officer and two Palestinians at an army checkpoint near Tulkarm Thursday was apparently planning to blow himself up at one of the many children's events taking place in Tel Aviv during this week's Hannukah holiday, army sources said. Had the bomber not been stopped at the checkpoint, the attack would have been far more deadly, said the sources. The slain officer was Lt. Ori Binamo, 21, of Nesher. Of the slain Palestinians, one was the taxi driver and the other might have been the bomber's guide. The IDF believes that the Islamic Jihad network in the northern West Bank was responsible. That network has been responsible for the deaths of 26 Israelis since the start of the year, including all of the suicide bombings inside Israel.
IDF sappers said the suicide belt containing more than 10 kilograms of explosives was packed with nails and iron scraps to make it more deadly. Because the blast occurred in an open area, its effect was mitigated, but had it gone off in an enclosed hall packed with parents and children, as was apparently intended, the effect would have been devastating. Col. Aharon Haliba, commander of the Ephraim Brigade, said, "With all my sorrow over Ori, I have to tell the truth: He and his soldiers, with their bodies, prevented [a far more serious] attack. That is their job; that is our job." Due to warnings of other attacks, the high alert along the seam between the West Bank and Israel will remain in force.

It'so so depraved, it leaves me speechless...............and what's with the term "suicide" bombing?

Pure evil. The word "suicide" is used because most of the Western press has bought into it being a legitimate act of martyrdom. Their identification with the aggressors is as evil as the ones doing the killing of innocents.

I too bristle when I hear the word "suicide" used to describe pre-meditated murder. It is apparently a matter of survival for the left to so mangle the language, and it has been going on for some time now.

There will be consequences. The left's communications are already under heavy scrutiny, and soon they will realize that the suspension of reason required to embrace such semantic distortion has its own punishment.

A "homicide bombing," to those who understand English, is any bombing that kills some person of the genus Homo ("Homo" = "man," "-cide" = "killing." It does not coonvey the signifcant information that the bomber also dies. A "suicide bombing" is a bombing in which the pepetrator is killed (usually by his or her own intention: "sui" = "self," "-cide" = "killing, and often with the death of other humans besides the criminal). If you don't like the term "suicide bombing," I suggest you come up with another alternative. Suihomicide bombing? Suicide bombing plus? Enhanced suicide bombing?

So what exactly is the significant information that the bomber also dies? Who gives a crap about evil Muslim terrorists killing themselves? I sure the hell don't. Do you think people here don't know what homicide or suicide means?

If you don't like the term homicide bombing, then I suggest you move to Palestine...the one in Jordan.

What is significant is that a suicide bomber is, in effect, a guided weapon with quite sophisticated sensory inputs and software (aka the human senses and brain). You may recall the kamikaze of WWII -- piloted airplanes that had a far higher kill rate than any weapon of the time. A suicide bomber, likewise, is far more likely to succeed in causing casualties to those seen as the enemy than a bomb one could leave behind. Is this point insignificant?

Addendum to the last post . . . I forgot, of course, the atomic bomb.

I still stand by the below:

"Pure evil. The word "suicide" is used because most of the Western press has bought into it being a legitimate act of martyrdom. Their identification with the aggressors is as evil as the ones doing the killing of innocents."

You can do your so-called analysis until the cows jump over the moon, but it is only another way of denying the above.

Where does the Devil find these people? Also finish the freaking fence already! It is criminal that it is not completed. Screw the Israeli Supreme Court!

I merely ask: How do you propose to distinguish a bombing carried out by persons willing to commit suicide (9/11/2001) from one that is carried out by those who leave the bomb behind (3/4/1994)?

Quickly, now; we're talking TV news, where a second one way or another costs money.

Listen clearly, your last comment belies that you are "merely asking." Again, listen clearly, I don't give a damn what you think. You are merely an apologist.

1. With all due respect to Neverforget and Atlas, I have to agree with Invigilator on the following point: adding the modifier “suicide”to bomber gives the reader important information about the nature of the attack and the doctrine of the enemy. It is of paramount importance that we understand the enemy and the kind of war he is fighting. That our terrorist enemy sends his button-men to commit suicide as part of the M.O. of his terrorism does not give an inherent moral stamp to him any more than it gave one to the kamikazes of WWII (although they were at least soldiers fighting against military forces). We have the MSM to thank for canonizing these terrorist monsters. Portraying suicide bombers as noble martyrs is just typical media spin. The way to counter the spin is by supporting the new media (such as this blog) and by working with organizations which try to keep the MSM honest, such as http://www.camera.org/
and http://www.honestreporting.com/.

2. The soul of Lt. Ori Binamo (may his memory be a blessing) will find its way to a place near to the souls of King David and Judah Maccabe. The souls of the government officials, think-tankers, lobbyists, media types and academics, who continue to pressure Israel to make the dangerous concessions which bring terrorists closer to Israeli children, may well find a less pleasant resting place.

With all due respect to MarcH and Invigilator, I couldn't disagree more vehemently. These are murdering bombers. This is their most effective means to kill as many Jews (or innoncents) as possible, to get into places their conventional (and rather inadequate) weapons cannot get to. Suicide implies a certain victimization and I will give no such sympathwric nomenclature.

And while I understand your contention the only reconciliation would be "murder-suicide bomber"

Pamela,

1. Would you say that the use term “suicide pilot” by the U.S. media in WWII showed a sympathy for kamikazes?

2. Your statement, “This is their most effective means to kill as many Jews (or innocents) as possible, to get into places their conventional (and rather inadequate) weapons cannot get to[.]” makes my argument. First, the word “suicide” gives important information about the terrorist’s method of attack and why it is effective. Second (and more important), in order to recruit suckers to utilize this effective tactic, the enemy has created a hellish society (you, with great accuracy, called it Hades above). Gaza and the PA territories are places where young children are encouraged to “martyr” themselves in order to get the highest place in their bizarre paradise. Mothers are encouraged to celebrate the “martyrdom” of their children. The other method of recruitment is equally despicable. I refer, of course, to the common palestinian terrorist tactic of recruiting the mentally impaired for suicide bombings. The fact that the palestinian terrorists (and the other Radical Islamists around the world) choose suicide as their M.O. gives us the most important information about them: they have created a culture which makes a fetish of death, just as our culture values life. So, I find nothing to engender sympathy in the term “suicide bomber.” In order to recruit “suicide bombers” the palestinian terrorists have created Hell on earth.

3. Our real problem is the MSM. Would you have a problem with the term suicide bomber if it was not accompanied by moral equivalence in media coverage? For example, the Philadelphia Inquirer illustrated their coverage of the Hadera, Israel suicide bombing (late October, 2005) with a picture, not of the victims, but of the bomber’s brother looking glum. Also, news stories usually refer to victims “killed” by bombers rather than “murdered.”

We may have to agree to disagree. I’m not upset about this. I think that Atlas, Neverforget, Invigalator and MarcH are arguing two parts of the same side.

I’ll conclude with this. I agree that the current use of the term “suicide bomber” in the MSM is often part of coverage which reeks of moral equivalence between murderers and victims. But, the solution is to force the media to do away with moral equivalence in their coverage rather than to alter the useful descriptive phrase “suicide bomber.” Don’t clip the top of the weed, pull it out roots and all.

P.S. The Jerusalem Post, my favorite source for complete and unbiased coverage of the Middle East, uses the term “suicide bomber.”

Dear neverforget: I would also disagree in principle with your term "pure evil," on the basis that nothing is ever pure in our sublunary world. 99 and 44/100s, perhaps.

Neverforget - What was the point of your last comment? A difference that makes no difference is no difference. The term "pure evil" has moral signfigiance and is 100% acurate when discussing the creatures who sent suicide bombers to a Hanukkah party (and when discussing the fellow-travelers and appeasers who enable them).

A correction for the record to this aging thread:

The last comment/question was addressed to Invigilator, not Neverforget. My apologies to both Invigilator and Neverforget.

Ayn Rand at 100: "Yours is the Glory"

  • Aynrandstamp_1

  • Speaking to the unnamed, unchampioned, beating heart of her new land, Ayn was to say: 'Yours is the glory.'"
A man whose ability and independence leads others to reject him, but who perseveres nevertheless to achieve his values. Man as an individual, as a creator. What's the most depraved type of human being? Not a sadist or a murderer or a sex maniac or a dictator; "The man without a purpose." Yet most people seem to go through their lives without a clearly defined purpose.

  • Life has Loveliness to sell,
    All beautiful and splendid things,
Blue waves whitened on a cliff,
Soaring fires that sways and swing,
    And children's faces looking up,
    Holding wonder like a cup

    Life has Loveliness to sell,
Music like a curve of Gold,
Scent of pinetrees in the rain,
Eyes that love you, arms that hold,
And for your spirit's still delight,
Holy stars that star the night.

Spend all you have for loveliness,
    Buy it and never count the cost;
For one white singing hour of Peace
Count many a year of strife well lost
And for a breath of ecstasy
Give all you have been, or could be.
