Nuclear Ramadan or Nuclear Christmas?
Joseph Farah of G2 (SUBSCRIPTION ONLY - BTW, worth every penny) breaking news;
Is 'American Hiroshima' set for October?
In a communique to Osama bin Laden, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the top al-Qaida lieutenant in Iraq, mentions the "Great Ramadan Offensive" that will create a "fateful confrontation" with the United States and Israel.
"I think that the plans for the next stage of the jihad has reached you or will reach you in a few days," Zarqawi writes in the letter. "O God, make the plans of Osama come to fruition!"
![]()
Aug. 8, al-Zawahiri said: "What you have seen, O Americans, in New York and Washington and the losses you are having in Afghanistan and Iraq, in spite of the blackouts by your media, are only the losses of the initial clashes. ... You will soon experience horrors that will make you forget the horrors you have encountered in Vietnam."
The al-Qaida chieftain went on to say: "Jihadist forces have been established in all of Western Europe to defend the powerless within the nation. For the crimes that the Crusaders have committed against the Muslims will be reaped by Christians and Jews throughout the Western world."
Concerns about an October attack were heightened even more by reports that the radical Islamic community viewed the ravages of hurricanes Katrina and Rita as signs that Allah was pleased with the plans for "the American Hiroshima." "Allah has punished America with winds and water," one imam is quoted in the GIS report as saying. Another imam reportedly quipped that America, as evidenced by the natural disasters, is "under the curse of the Jews."Christopher Brown, research associate with the Hudson Institute's Transitions to Democracy project, maintains that the hurricanes have presented al-Qaida with a unique strategic opportunity.
Ramadan represents the ninth month of the Islamic year, the month in which the Koran was revealed to the Prophet Mohammed. According to Muslim tradition, the actual revelation occurred on the night between the 26th and 27th days of the month. On this "Night of Determination," Allah determines the fate of the world for the coming year.
Bin Laden has been amassing nuclear weapons and materials since 1992, when he was in the Sudan. This was substantiated by the testimony of al-Qaida officials in federal court during the hearings of "The U.S. v. Osama bin Laden."
When he returned to Afghanistan, bin Laden purchased tactical nuclear weapons from the Chechen Mafia. News of the sale was confirmed by Saudi, Israeli, British, Saudi and Russian intelligence and reported in The Times of London, the Jerusalem Report, Al Watan al-Arabi, Muslim Magazine, Al-Majallah (London’s Saudi weekly) and by the BBC.
In 1997, bin Laden made additional small nuclear weapons from materials bought not only from the Chechens but also black market sources in Russia, China, Kazakhstan and the Ukraine.
In 1998, he purchased large quantities of highly enriched uranium from Simeon Mogilevich, a Ukrainian arms dealer. For one delivery of fifteen kilos of uranium-236, Mogilevich was paid $70 million. Bin Laden also purchased several bars of enriched uranium-138 from Ibrahim Abd, an Egyptian arms dealer and several Congolese opposition soldiers.
From 1999 to 2001, bin Laden hired scientists and technicians from the A.Q. Khan Research Facility in Pakistan not only to build new nukes from the highly enriched uranium and plutonium but also to maintain, upgrade, reconfigure, and redesign his "off-the shelf" nukes, including nuclear mines, so that they could be packed into lightweight (less than eight pounds) suitcases and backpacks or molded into warheads that could be launched from 120 or 155 millimeter recoilless rifles.
Upon the arrests of Dr. Sultan Bashiruddin Mahmood and Dr. Chaudry Abdul Majid, two top officials from the Khan facility, the CIA discovered that several of bin Laden’s tactical nukes had been forward-deployed to the United States from Karachi.
More information concerning al-Qaida’s nukes came with the arrest in Pakistan of
Sharif al-Masri, a key al-Qaida operative. Al Masri, an Egyptian national with close ties to al-Zawahiri, operative, informed CIA and ISI (Pakistani intelligence) officials that several tactical nukes for use in the American Hiroshima had been forward deployed to Mexico for transportation across the border by members of Mara Salvatrucha ("MS-13"), a Salvadoran street gang. (see below for more on Mexico Terror connection).
These developments caused both President Bush and Sen. John Kerry to speak of nuclear terrorism in the 2004 presidential campaign as "the single greatest danger facing the American people," and for Vice President Cheney to say that a nuclear attack from al-Qaeda appears "imminent."
The seven cities targeted by al-Qaida for nuclear destruction are New York, Washington DC, Miami, Houston, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Chicago.
Ramadan begins Tuesday, Oct. 4, and ends on Nov. 2. The Night of Determination will occur Oct. 29.
This is of course in addition to Iran's nuclear plans here.
Look guys, I don't know if it's October or November or what exact date. I do know it is a real threat based on empircal evidence. So we must eliminate as many and as much of the enemy as we can. It's not complicated, it's life and death.
UPDATE: October 3rd
My take on these global al qaeda "brushfire" bombings (i.e. this weekend's bombing in Bali, London, Madrid etc)? I believe it is a deliberate strategy to disarm us, trick us if you will.......to deceive us into thinking this is their modus operandi......bomb subways, buildings, discos.......wherein we prepare for one thing, when if fact they have quite another attack in mind. We are on the defense, we react. Which is why the Bush Doctrine is the answer. We must be proactive, not reactive - Atlas.

Ben also advises;
Nice document but mostly vague "how to be prepared" stuff. And familiar to those old enough to recall fallout shelters in basements and drills in school. In most likely scenarios, the warning a civilian would get would only be an unusually bright and sustained flash of light. In this case, you have seconds at best before the heat hits, followed by the shock wave. Don't worry about the radiation- the kill zone is actually quite small compared to that for the blast and heat. If you're not dead with that first flash of light, your best chance is to dive face down into the lowest, most protected point of ground you can reach in a second or two, feet towards the blast, head away, face and hands as covered as possible. Then wait until not one but two concussion waves have passed- negative pressures following the blast will cause a return wave after the initial outgoing wave. Your chances will be pretty gloomy regardless, but any chance beats no chance- never give up on life too easily.
Re: Mexican mob specializes in counterfeiting identification papers from G2 Bulletin
A Mexican crime organization, specializing in counterfeiting identification papers, has expanded its operation throughout the U.S., according to law enforcement sources.
The organization is alleged to be involved in the manufacture and distribution of high-quality counterfeit identity documents, including Social Security cards, birth certificates, marriage certificates, U.S. and Mexican driver licenses, Matricula Consular ID cards, resident alien cards, work authorization documents, proof of vehicle insurance cards, temporary vehicle registration documents, and utility bills (many states require driver license applicants to show utility bills as proof of residence).

Wow, that's depressing.
I hope you don't live in Manhattan, Pamela. I live far enough outside of LA that I probably don't have to worry. However, I travel enough that if something like this were to happen, I might very likely be away from my family for weeks or months.
I've been reading these reports from Farah and realizing that the government has been warning us about this for the past several years, and doing so as explicitly as is possible without them sounding like Chicken Little. So, I guess it is somewhat likely this will happen.
Lord, what a world it would become if the U.S. were to be attacked like this. You ever read Revelation?
Eek.

now there's an understatement

Well, I was gonna start quoting, but I didn't want to get all heavy on your ass. And besides, I admit, this whole subject is a little beyond my ability to really reflect upon, so I have to be a little bit humorous about it.
I'm pretty sure the U.S. would retaliate, and do so very heavily. Other nations (the Tataglias and Barzinis may get in on the action. Stars would fall from the sky, mountains would crumble into the sea, and the moon sun moon would become blood red. The water would be poisoned, a piece of bread would buy a bag of gold, and the newspapers of the world would feature headlines saying, "Woe to those who are with child in days like these."
People would pray to God to kill them, but they'd be unable to die.
Eek.
There, I feel better.

You have a good blog!
I guess it is gonna be Nuke Xmas:-D
Posted by: Winston | Sunday, October 02, 2005 at 07:07 PM
we need to hold the holy cities and sites of islam hostage under the threat of a u.s. nuclear attack.
If they do nuke us, I believe the time to win their hearts and minds will have come to an end. It's not possible to accomplish anyways.
it's no holds barred, and I don't care if innocents die if it means securing the u.s.
does that make me a horrible person?

Moonbat Monitor,
Just in case you really wanted an answer to that, no it doesn't make you a horrible person. It makes you a sane person.
The United States is the greatest blessing to the world of any nation or culture in history. We need to do all we can to preserve it.
You the man.

No no Pastorious you the man!
and Moonbat Monitor, it makes you a rational person. A normal person.
I know that Mecca is our sword of Damocles but the deranged madness that drives these barbarians may be more powerful than their desire to save Mecca. They intend to take down America.
Their MO has always been to destroy religious sites. They hold all religions in great contempt.
Look at how the Israelis tend to all religous sites of all denominations within their borders.
The same can hardly be said of Jihadists. When the Palis took over that church in Bethlehem, they were defecating on sacred ground.
Osama and his pods are weighing the political capital they would gain within the Muslim world if the West blew Mecca off the face of the earth. It would certainly unite the whole of the Muslim world.
But hey, thats just my opinion.............

I wouldn't take too seriously anything that would publish something like "they could be packed into lightweight (less than eight pounds) suitcases and backpacks or molded into warheads that could be launched from 120 or 155 millimeter recoilless rifles".
What else, nuclear bullets? Nuclear knives? Nuclear BB guns? I worked with nukes in the army - there ain't no eight pound nukes, nothing close. Those things are heavy and there's no getting around that.
Posted by: Jay | Sunday, October 02, 2005 at 11:05 PM
-If they use nukes against our biggest cities, I fear that will be the end of America.
-We have allowed some of the weakest amongst us to rule over us. I have no faith in them. Our fighters are strong... we will not lose on the battlefield. If the government decides to respond to terrorist attacks by further looting American citizens (and they will), I fear that we will be defeated from the inside-out and collapse.
-Bush offering up billions in aid after Katrina... can you imagine the looting after multiple nuclear attacks?
Posted by: penxv | Monday, October 03, 2005 at 12:07 AM
atlas, I've heard that even the smallest suitcase nukes go about 200 lbs.
is this true or not?
Posted by: moonbat monitor | Monday, October 03, 2005 at 07:01 AM
anyone that loots after a nuclear attack gets exactly what they deserve. radiation poisoning and a darwin award.
Posted by: moonbat monitor | Monday, October 03, 2005 at 07:02 AM
I think what Penvx is saying is that our government is "looting" American, by throwing money at problems. I don't think he was referring to the looters in New Orleans.
The thing is, I have to wonder if Penvx considers the war in Iraq part of this "looting" he's talking about.

I am just glad nobody said a Nuclear Rosh Hashanah ............
as for NOLA GAY (no pun intended, uh on second thought); if the intention is really to rebuild, you can't rebuild without raising up that city x number of feet.
End of story
What are we fucking idiots?

We should be very cautious in evaluating these kinds of reports, which crop up from time to time. I have no doubt that al Q would love to detonate a nuke in New York, and simultaneous nukes would please them even more. However, even suitcase nukes are large and heavy, and unless you add to the wieght by lining them with lead, they will light up every radiation detector around. Furthermore, nukes are not only very difficult to make, but difficult to maintain. You can't keep a nuke in shape for exploding while hiding in a cave somewhere. The high explosives that are required to trigger the fission reaction are relatively unstable and degrade quickly. If al Q got a hold of Russian suitcase nukes (which may be apochryphal in any event) there is no chance that they would still be usable 15-20 years after they were made (as some news accounts have suggested.) If al Q ever gets a nuke, they will have to use it as quickly as possible if they want it to explode with a thermonuclear bang (which puts Europe at much higher risk than here.) As for radioactive material for a dirty bomb, it is much easier to find that kind of thing locally, which means minimal lethality from the rads (though lots of panic and some deaths from the explosion itself.)
Just my $0.02.

Moonbat Monitor: This is a pic of the smallest I'm aware of. It says 68 kilograms - 150 pounds? I remember heavy but not that heavy. Anyway, it's better described as a beer keg bomb than a suitcase bomb - it came with a back pack but nobody was of the opinion that you could go very far carrying it:

Posted by: Jay | Monday, October 03, 2005 at 02:18 PM
A plutonium bomb is the most likely ingredient for the so-called suitcase nuke. Best guess I heard about October 2001 was a weight of 50-70 pounds. Since plutonium is an alpha emitter, rather than gamma radiation, its natural decay radiation can be blocked with paper. Might want to be careful and give it a couple of layers of paper, just to insure there were no holes lined up.
This is serious, scary stuff. My wife and I live about 6-7 miles from the U.S. Capitol. I am counting on the hills to send the blast force up high over our heads.
Posted by: OleJim | Monday, October 03, 2005 at 06:30 PM
No way. I'd be surprised if the terrorists had the technology and materials to even put together a uranium nuke. But a plutonium nuke? You're talking about the difference between grade school spelling and advanced college physics.
Posted by: Jay | Monday, October 03, 2005 at 06:49 PM
Who says Bin Laden doesn't already have smart terrorists able to build such weapons biding their time in a cell somewhere in Maintown, USA? How long were the Yasin brothers here before they bombed the WTC in 1993 or Atta's 9/11 gang in 2004?
I do find comfort knowing the Patriot Act was extended. So many planned Jihadist attacks have been thus far put out of commission, let's hope this tactic continues.
Posted by: susan | Monday, October 03, 2005 at 09:58 PM
Time does not equal knowledge or capability (no matter how smart the terrorists are). I think a more serious concern would be crop duster type aircraft dumping bio weapons or else possibly the terrorists putting something in a water supply. Nukes aren't very likely, bio is most likely (in between would be an attack with something like nerve agent).
Or, simply another "conventional" attack like 911.
Posted by: Jay | Monday, October 03, 2005 at 11:15 PM
Somehow I doubt that al Q has as many (or any at all) nuclear weapons as they'd like us to think. Remember, that terrorism is a war designed to inspire more war, not to accomplish anything in particular. Remember that what they're trying to do is create fear and panic. Smuggling nuclear weapons around the US, I would imagine, is not a piece of cake either...considering weight and radiation among other things.
Posted by: Dreck jr. | Tuesday, October 04, 2005 at 05:46 PM
Doesn't publicizing your future attacks defeat the purpose? Al-Q has had one SPECTACULAR success, and it came as a bolt from the blue.
Re: Nuking Mecca--I've read that the Wahabbis in Saudi are busily tearing down historic Islamic sites; I think they'd be more willing to lose Mecca that Jews the Wailing Wall or Christians St. Peter's (or Bethleham).
Even so, it seems that smuggling a nuke would require a significant amount of teamwork and possibly involvement of a government. And if you create the opinion among Muslims that Mecca is a hostage, all you need is one person do inform to end the plot?
Nuclear weapons have always been political rather than military weapons. If the US overthrew two governments in response to 9/11, you have to wonder what we'd do in response to a nuclear terrorist strike...might even nuke Paris, while we're at it.

If I were to put a bet on when the attack would happen, it would be 10/13.
10/13/2005 = 698th Anniversary of the Destruction of the Knights Templar in 1307. The descendants of the Templars are the Freemasons, who founded the United States. Therefore an attack on this date would be symbolic of the destruction of the Templars who fought the Muslims during the Crusades.
10/13/2005 = 9th Day of Ramadan during the 9th Month on the Islamic Calendar. Put the two "9's" together and you get the number 99. In Islam, "99" represents the number of names of Allah;
http://www.themodernreligion.com/basic/islam_99_names.htm
10/13/2005 = Yom Kippur, the Jewish day of Atonement, the most important religious holiday in Judaism.
So circle 10/13 on your calendar because the fecal matter is about to hit the fan.
