Camera makes an important point.........don't feed the blob
Our heartfelt sympathy and prayers go to the people of London who have today experienced a wave of terrorist attacks. Such barbarism is indefensible, and groups that use such inhumane tactics should be utterly shunned and repudiated by the world community with minimal attention given to their "frustrations" and allegations.
In the past, terrorist attacks against civilian targets in the U.S., Spain, Israel, Bali and Iraq have often been followed by intense media focus on the terrorists' supposed grievances (e.g. "Why do they hate us?") and on the terrorists' demands. The media have, in effect, directed the world's attention to exactly what the terrorists want to be the center of attention. The suffering of the victims is often covered intensively at the time of the attack but relatively little beyond that.
Please contact members of the media and urge them to report on what the terrorists would least like to see publicized: the bigotry, extremism and incitement that drives the terrorists, the hate-indoctrination pervasive in extremist mosques and Islamist schools throughout the world, including England...positive stories about the strength of pluralism in Israel and the U.S....reports about Afghanis and Iraqis praising the improvements brought by the coalition forces...Israeli Arabs praising Israel's democracy...stories about women's rights (or lack thereof) in Arab and Muslim societies...Remind people what Al Qaeda's ideal society is -- a repressive, brutal, misogynist society such as the formerly Taliban-led Afghanistan.
Terrorism should cease to be a successful ticket to free -- and deferential -- publicity. Please provide a model for the media and others to follow. Call in to a radio show...write a letter to the editor expressing your sympathy for the British people, your disgust with the terrorists and their tactics, and then comment on one of the above topics. Don't mention the terrorists' supposed grievances; simply write about something that is counter to their goals. Media addresses are below.
