United
Church of Christ Adopts "Economic Leverage" (Formerly "Divestment")
Proposal
- Errin Haines
The United Church of Christ voted Tuesday to
use "economic leverage" to promote peace between Israel and Palestinians and to
call for the dismantling of the Jewish state's security fence. A last-minute
compromise was reached whereby no mention of divestment would be made.
Rabbi Abraham Cooper, associate dean for the Simon Wiesenthal Center, called the
resolutions "functionally anti-Semitic." He accused the UCC, which has 1.3
million members, of holding Israel to a different moral standard. David Elcott,
the American Jewish Committee's U.S. Director of Interreligious Affairs, said,
"We understand Christian concerns about a wall, but we believe that saving human
lives is more significant than property." (AP/San Francisco Chronicle)

Gee, do you suppose he means using economic leverage againgst the palestinians?
I think not.
This Christian thinks the wall is being built much too slowly and not high enough.
What to do about so many countries around Israel gaining nuclear capabilities and the means to deliver a nuclear weapon. I wish we had a fence for that.

Just so everybody knows, the UCC is not exactly representative of most Christians.
In anything. They're a bunch of leftist kooks.
I'm with both of Paul's posts (zing!) with saying the wall needs to be put up bigger and faster.

The current left uses the phrase anti-Israeli and not anti-semitic. My father's generation fought and won WWII. A very close friend of my father, lead US Army troops that liberated a camp in Germany. This guy was guilt-ridden for not being able to save all the people in the camp. Yes, they kept dying after our soldiers were there who gave them their rations and water. The US military has liberated more people then any group.
Is George Soros of Jewish background? How about owner of NY Times. Yet Jews who served in WWII that I knew, were patriotic all their lives. One a MD from Brooklyn served as MD with Army and later in the Viet Nam era got mad at TV images of protesters.
GW Bush has been great for Israel. Why are 80% of Jews in the USA left leaning.

JMB,
"GW Bush has been great for Israel. Why are 80% of Jews in the USA left leaning."
1) too bad Bush has been an idiot for America
2) if the figure is correct that 80% of Jews in America are left leaning, it probably has something to do with the fact that they are Americans not Israelis
