Woo Hoo! Hooha! Elliot Spitzer suffered a GI-NORMOUS defeat yesterday when a jury acquitted Bank of America broker, Theodore Sihpol III.
Spitzer's entire reputation has been "earned" at the expense of Wall Street, the very engine that fuels the New York economy. Nothing else even comes close. Spitzer has spent his entire career trying to take down this golden laying goose . Mind you as enormous as Wall Street is, New York Social Services still employs more people - we are the very definition of welfare state.
You must remember how fragile the New York economy has been post 9/11. And financial markets don't have to be in New York anymore not with the advent of technology and electronic trading. We should be kissing the street's ass........preening the bull, massaging the bear. Without Wall Street paying the way, New York is finished - uh no I am not exaggerating. It is that serious.
But noooooooooo, Spitzer has been like a pit ball on a newborn.
Neww York Attorney General Elliot Spitzer is the shoo in candidate to replace Pataki *SPIT* for Governor. Not anymore..............woo hoo
Why should you care if you don't live in New York. Because once Spitzer hit the national landscape, his ambitions are Machiavellian. He would have his hand in your pocket in no time "for the common good" - more dangerous words were never spoken.
Spitzer is a graduate of the Ellsworth Toohey School of political and social manipulations.
In today's New York Sun, New York's NEXT GREAT ICONIC NEWSPAPER (if you haven't started your subscription I have lost all respect for you- it's brilliant and it's cheap as borscht) - there is an editorial questioning his fund raising practices. It's all good.
In Defeat for Spitz er, Jury Acquits Broker
"This acquittal is a blow to Eliot Spitz er, who has been unable to prose cute Wall Street criminals successfully," said lawyer Jacob Minsky, whose 2001 claim against Merrill Lynch & Company helped spark Mr. Spitz's investigation of biased Wall Street research. "By comparison, federal prosecutors have a strong record," he said. "Spitzer should concentrate on working to prove his cases rather than trying people through the press."
So happy am I?
I know it ain't over till its over but I can hear the fat lady now.............
After the stunning defeat Attorney General Spitzer suffered at the hands of a New York jury yesterday in the case of Theodore C. Sihpol III, maybe attention will be paid to Mr. Spitzer's own conception of political ethics. After all, "For integrity" is the phrase that greets those who open the front page of his own campaign Web site, and he began his campaign for governor by promising "real change" in Albany.
The politician who made his reputation by assailing conflicts of interest in the Wall Street research industry claims he is hewing to what the New York Times describes as "the highly unusual decision not to accept campaign contributions from people or companies with business before his office." He's already returned donations
from Donald Trump and the CSX railroad company, according to the Times.
